It's also a silly risk, because of the term left on Bob's contract and his age vs Samsonov's. It's also a solution to non-problem (for now at least).

cap hit (according to the capfriendly buyout calc) is 6.667 for the next 3 seasons if you buy him out next summer plus 1.6 for 3 seasons after that. this is 5mil for 3 seasons (4 if you include this one)

So you don't save real money but save 1.6M (6.6M vs 5M retention) caphit in the next three seasons. Sure is worth giving Bennett away!

just depends on how cap strapped they end up being. 1.5mil is a decent amount. don't know if it's worth it to give up bennett but if they ever want to actually make a run, that d-core has to get better. that extra money could really help them

if knight becomes the 1G, why would they keep paying bob 10mil when they can not do that? they’re not “getting rid of a 1G to save 1.6mil,” they’re getting rid of him to save 5mil or 3.4 mil. whether they buy him out or trade him they’re still getting rid of him.

if lundell becomes the 2C and they have to pay him 6-7mil after his ELC is up, maybe it becomes beneficial for them to move bennett. should they? probably not, but it’s not like a preposterous idea given the forward group is the strongest part of the florida roster and the fact that bob is going to be a hard player to move with the nmc/m-ntc (which maybe makes it more worth it for them to buy him out regardless of the additional cap hit). this whole thing is moot anyway since toronto is going to be on his no trade list but whatever.
