Description
Filling 4C with Kruger and getting rid of fehr works for both teams. The puck doesn't need to be there.
Trading jvr to the islanders makes a lot of sense. 6x6 extension for a perennial 60pt soft hands slick passing Jvr is probably fair and the islanders need to make a push to keep Tavares happy and resigning. I'd love to see barzel come back the other way. I wonder what the islanders want to do with there expansion situation. They have D that they can't protect and pulock and dehaan are the pieces they would need to move. Pulocks upside looks limited due to his average skating but he does have a boom. Also barzel looking real good in junior but he has question marks that lead to his sliding in the draft. He has underwhelmed in putting the puck in the net but looks to be a premier playmaker. He's undersized and needs to get stronger to compete with men at C. Komo Rychel and valiev are some pieces for now and the future. The main piece of the trade is barzel for JVR.
Carrick is young and decent but could be moved for a couple of picks before getting lost to expansion.

Did you just sign JVR to a new 6-year deal, then retain $2M of it to trade him??

I'd be very interested in trying to get a trade with the Islanders revolving around JVR and Pulock/Barzal. I think the pick we send to them should be conditional.. 2018 2nd-rounder becoming a 1st-rounder if JVR chooses not to sign. Leo is also an expiring contract, so maybe if we substituted Komarov for Leipsic. Just an idea. Overall, not bad.

Brown deal seems reasonable. Hyman seems lengthy. Not sure if Leipsic will get multiple years on a one-way though he deserves a shot at a roster spot next year. No way Bibeau gets 900.

Doesn't make sense to trade 4th line guys essentially straight up when Fehr is cheaper and less term.

Islander trade doesn't make a ton of sense to me. Taking on Halak, a guy who probably wants to start, and paying him that much even just for one year I just don't see it. I think they want someone behind Freddy who knows his role is to back him up. Also, trading JVR, a 30-30 guy who's a vet on this team, plays LW which this team is a bit thin on, for an unproven forward at the NHL level and a middling D is probably undervaluing him.

Carrick trade I assume is so you don't lose him for nothing in expansion but they need depth on RHD so I would expect Lou to maybe get Vegas to pluck someone like Marincin for "future considerations", without having to trade away from a spot you lack depth.

The lineup you have is pretty scary in a bad way for me. An all rookie 3rd pair, a LW depth chart of unproven NHLers and no real upgrade in depth on D is frightening. Down the middle looks really nice though.

Barzal/Pulock are our two top prospects, your two old players and mid level prospects aren't gonna get anywhere close to what they are valued at.

NYI wouldn't even do a Barzal for JVr straight up let alone all the extra pieces coming back to them. Then you add another top prospect and I don't see any way NYI do this deal. Not very close.

JVR is strictly LW and the NYI are set at LW, They more or less need RW not LW so JVR isn't a fit there.

If you really wanted to keep Tavares happy, don't trade Barzal and Pulock, and sign JVR if at all. Seem like a lot of cheap good youth given up just to get JVR to sign one year early.
The Leafs might need Fehr, maybe the Hawks just give Kruger to Leafs. the Leafs have cap room. I like Dermot a lot, but Rosen and Borgman haven't proven themselves in North American, maybe some short term vets are needed to man a couple Dman positions. Don't know why Carrick would have to exposed, there aren't that many forwards that need to protected,

I very much like your Leafs-Islanders trade, but it's definitely a little one-sided (for Toronto). Perhaps add Jeremy Bracco, as well? I actually think the Leafs would be more likely to get away with that deal if they took Calvin de Haan instead of Pulock, only because of de Haan's salary. Either way, I am assuming in this scenario, Barzal would be in the opening night line-up, maybe as a left winger on Bozak's line? He's definitely ready to step in to the NHL this upcoming season.

As much as I am sure the Leafs could use Marcus Kruger's faceoff ability, I doubt Chicago would take on dead weight in Eric Fehr, even if that saved them a $1 million.

Ya I thought about putting a conditional first but thought I'd just imply that he resigns. And Leipsic could be subbed for komo. I assume they want to make more of a push now and komo adds more now. Good input.

Good feedback. With regards to the jvr trade. People really undervalue jvr. He's a proven top player. Not a star but a really skilled nice piece. barzel is a real good player. But he's far from a guarantee. He's a little undersized and he obviously needs to shoot the puck more. I wouldn't trade barzel for JVR. But IF the islander want to make a push this year (or risk losing JT) they only really have a few peices/prospects I like. I assume no one good on there roster is available. Barzel is still a maybe. More like a probably but jvr is a 30g 60pt top player that could do some damage with JT. And yes I know they could wait another year and sign him. But you could say that about every ufa. And someone else gets him probably.

This is a general reply to many of the comments not just the one above.
