Any notion that Matthews is going to leave Toronto is incredibly false. It would be as silly as saying McDavid will come to Toronto. When was the last time a player of Matthews' caliber left the team that drafted them?

I've been saying for years...that Matthews is LA bound. Probably 7 years as the Leafs will keep him for the next two playoffs. His salary...don't know if any "good" teams could offer that much $$$$.

Gretzky left his first NHL team. Bobby Hull, Gordie Howe, Guy Lafleur, all left their first NHL team. Sorry bud, it's Matthews has a choice.

Not only was that 30-40 + years ago but 3 of the 4 you mentioned were way long out of their prime when they left. Matthews could sign with Arizona/LA/NY (or whatever narrative you guys like to run with nowadays) when he's into the end of his career. The bottom line is that he is going to be a Leaf for a long time.

Pretty silly to guess at this point. Everything indicates that he will re sign with the leafs. Not that situations haven't gone sideways from there.

At least it is LA instead of Arizona which is laughable. In my opinion there's a 75% chance he re ups with the leafs and a 25% chance he moves to the kings or rangers.

He loves the attention he gets here and if he goes to LA he just becomes another guy amongst guys so to speak as LA be full of stars and celebrities

The bottom line is going to be a Leaf for a long term. That's really silly to believe in that "bottom line". There is no bottom line when players (and teams) have options are where they play.

Those players that I mentioned, hardly a chance to move to another team, due to lack of free agency. Players now can leave as UFAs at age 25 if they have seven years as NHLer. It's 2022.
