Sandin for Durzi isn't the natural it seems to be at first blush. To begin with, Los Angeles has no more than $2 million to sign Sandin, and if he was interested in signing for that, Toronto would have gotten his signature already. Second, we have 3 LhD's under contract on the main roster now -- Edler, Moverare and Bjornfot -- and that will become 4 when we re-sign Mikey Anderson, so adding Sandin isn't the perfect fit people seem to think it is. (However, in all fairness, if the strategic plan is to send Bjornfot back to Ontario so that he can get double the playing time he would get in the NHL, that objection disappears.) Third, I'm sold on Durzi, especially in his offensive capabilities (he has as many points in 64 games as Sandin has in 88), but I'm not sold on Sandin. I'm told that he's definitely top-4 material, but I believe that Durzi has already shown that he is top-4 material. Fourth, we know that Durzi is a good student in the Los Angeles system; we don't know that about Sandin. (I'm under the impression that he was scratched for the playoffs, not injured.)
Maybe it's just personal bias -- and I'm completely willing to admit it -- but I'm not a fan of this exchange.
