Would have to move 2 of either Backlund, Toffoli, Hanifin or Tanev to re-sign Meier, otherwise this is a huge payment of future assets for a 1 year rental

The only way Calgary would consider doing that is if Meier comes with a nice long extension at an AAV significantly less than his QO. Without an extension Meier is just a rental. There's no way Calgary trades Coronato for a rental.

Meier is not a rental, no matter how hard some would wish he was so they can have him at a discounted trade value. I think it’s close, the 1st would have to be sooner than 3 years from now.

If you can't resign him then he's essentially just a rental.

Except he isn’t, that team would own his rights. Would be a Kevin Fiala scenario and he still got a 1st and a top 4 RD prospect.
