Damn you would trade away Kyle Connor, one of the best wingers in the league, for a pile of garbage? Hawks are asking more for Kane

Devils would offer this package for Kyle Connor:

Unprotected 2023 1st round pick
Alexander Holtz
Shakir Muhkamadullin
2023 2nd round pick
Arseny Gritsyuk

That is such a gross overpay from the Isles for Dubois.

The Isles would not trade Raty for him, let alone add in Nelson, Dufour and another 1st.

Edmonton doesn't have the cap space to make that move. And while I really like Ehlers, over the past 4 seasons he has averaged 24 goals and 49 points - about the expectation for Puljujarvi this year. I'm not sure this is a worthwhile move for Edmonton to make.

Only unrealistic because I think you've sold low on a lot of the guys here (well also because we know no NHL team would ever be this actively rebuilding).

-Rangers would probably need retention on this deal, but I think they would happily give up Chytil/1st/2nd for the major upgrade to Scheifele. Most Rangers fans around here don't seem to see Filip as part of the team's long term plans, and Scheif actually lines up age-wise with a lot of their core (Panarin, Zibanejad, Kreider, Trouba, Trocheck, and Goodrow are all 28-31 years old and Schief is 29).

-Honestly think the Isles would pass on this deal, and not sure why Winnipeg would make it either? PLD isn't as interesting a trade chip as he was before he talked about playing for the Habs being a goal of his, so it's hard to pay a ton of value for a guy that's probably walking in couple seasons. I'd argue that current Brock Nelson is also a better overall player than PLD - since PLD joined the league in 2017-18, they've played almost the identical amount of games (361 for Brock, 360 for Dubois) and Brock has 125 goals vs. Dubois' 102 in that time; Dubois has some more assists which basically evens out their scoring at 125-109-234 for Nelson and 102-137-239 for PLD. So the Islanders trade 3x$6M of similar offensive production for 1x$6M + one more RFA year at probably $7M? and throw in their two best prospects and a 2023 1st? No thanks. Conversely, if Winnipeg is doing a full tear down, why are they focusing on acquiring a 31-year-old Brock Nelson? I don't think PLD brings back Barzal, but I would at least look at trying to get a guy like Anthony Beauvillier (25) from the Islanders in a package if I'm going full rebuild.

-This is a huge underpayment for Ehlers - his last 3 seasons have played out at a 33-39-72 per 82 GP pace. You're getting back Puljujarvi, who is a good play driver with no results to show for it; a 41 year old Mike Smith who probably plays just well enough to get you out of the good part of the lottery but not well enough to make a playoff run in 2022-23, and a 1st/3rd combo. You can do way better moving Ehlers here.

-Same here, this is a crazy undersell on Kyle Connor! He pushed 50 goals last season and has averaged 40 G/82 GP and a hair under a point per game per season over the last 4 years, and you're getting back a couple of second-tier prospects, a top-10 protected 1st, and an walk year goalie coming off an injury while sending out Kyle Connor AND Nate Schmidt! I get that you're shoveling a ton of cap out the door and need to take something back, but the fact that this deal doesn't have Dawson Mercer or Alex Holtz anywhere in it is a huge miss.

-This might be fair value - Pittsburgh upgrades a pretty good goalie in Jarry into a very good goalie in Hellebuyck and sends a couple prospects and a pick that doesn't need protection since it'll be a late 1st. I could see this happening if Winnipeg is making a huge teardown.

-I don't hate the value here but I'd move Brenden Dillon elsewhere - he's a solid veteran middle-pair dude on a fairly affordable deal. I don't know if you get the pair of 2nds you paid for him back, but I could easily see a contender giving you an asset for him. Arizona, though, is going to treat a 31 year old on a 2x$3.9M as, at best, a non-asset, seeing as he doesn't fit their contention timeline at all. I think pulling him out and cashing him elsewhere makes more sense since this package would meet Arizona's needs pretty well - two NHL-ready prospects & two 1sts is probably the best they can hope for in a Chych trade.

-I think Florida passes, if only because they're loaded up on young LHD (look at their CF page - I agree it's varying levels of prospects, but it's almost -all- lefties when you look at the D they have signed to contracts currently) and they're going to need ELC forwards more over the next couple years. I think the value is fair between the two prospects, though.

TL;DR : value your players more and kill the top 10 protection on picks when you're trading superior assets!

saying Ehlers "averaged" 24-25-49 is a little misleading because you're counting two incomplete years in there with the COVID seasons - lumping a 70 game season and a 56 game season sandwiched by two full 82 gamers is going to depress everyone's numbers. That's why I used per 82 GP when talking about his recent production, to normalize all of it. Ehlers over the past 4 seasons played 242 GP and put up 95-101-196 in that time - or an average of 32-34-66 per 82 GP. Saying he's a 50 point guy or a 65 point guy is going to be a huuuuuge difference in valuation.

The Jets would be insane to pass on that Islanders deal, Lou would never do it though.

This is mostly bad, why trade away Ehlers and Connor but then trade for Chycrun, that return for Ehlers is brutal too.

Would be great to get that for Dubois but Lou isn't trading all that for him, Isles likely have no interest in PLD anyway.

oh yeah, in a vaccuum it's a slam dunk accept. but if the Jets are trading away pretty much every veteran they have (literally, OP has every Jet over 28 out the door except 4C Dominic Tominato & Mr. NMC Blake Wheeler), I don't know why they'd trade PLD in a deal with Brock Nelson as the centerpiece - seems to fly in the face of every other move here. Obviously the Isles would turn it down, but targeting Nelson seemed curious to me.

It was a very granular look, you're right. But you aren't accounting for his injury time, and that's also not giving an accurate picture as his average season is not 82 games.

If you work out missed time due to injuries you could say he averages about 27 goals and 55 points. That's about where I'd expect Puljujarvi lands this year, as he was on pace to score 29 goals & 67 points before COVID and injuries derailed his season.
