To be fair, he was an excellent salesman. If he'd been willing to just be President and found someone else to handle GM duties at the beginning, he'd be much more fondly remembered. But... well, the clearest indication that that was never a realistic possibility is that after he fired Dave King, he opted to replace him as head coach with... himself. President, General Manager, and Head Coach, all at once.

I honestly felt bad for him when he traded for an old Sergei Fedorov. I loved Fedorov. Easily one of my all time favourite Red Wings. But he was a shadow of his former self when Doug acquired him from Burke's Ducks. I think he was expecting the 1997 version of Feds.

He really REALLY hates Ken Hitchcock. LOL
