i think myers has slight negative value without retention, slight postive value with retention.

Hes a lot more moveable next year, with 1 year left and owed less than 6m

He’s a 3 million dollar veteran dman, getting paid double, not overly tradeable until deadline in another year as a rental, unless substantial retention. To get any value sooner going to have to take a large cap dump back,

right now you could probably get a 3rd retaining 25%. He'd be much easier to move next season once his 5 million dollar signing bonus is paid

I think these are all true. With two years left on his deal and most teams now having their rosters fairly set for the season, Myers holds much more value to VAN on the ice than he does on the trade market. The team doesn't have a proper replacement for him at the moment, so shipping him out makes zero sense overall. If they want to create some more cap space then moving one of their many NHL forwards is a much better way to go.

agreed. van cannot trade myers now unless they get a top 4 dman back in another trade, which seems very unlikely at this point

Half retention might get a 2nd or a 3rd from a contender so later picks. No chance a team giving up a first unless they are shipping a big cap dump back and that kind of defeats the purpose.

Idk, everyone has hit on Myers value with their comments, ultimately Vancouver needs Myers, not a lot of dmen out there.

I expect a mid round pick like a 4th or 5th rounder with RS.

Maybe this was true two months ago but Vancouver has long missed their chance to pull this off. They should have tried to make the Nasvhille-McDonagh deal (which would have gotten them a worse-but-maybe-has-upside Myers for half the price and term), or something similar. Now, half the teams in the league are within a league minimum contract of the cap. Several teams still have to convince a bad team to take a bad deal to get them cap compliant. No teams are struggling to get to the cap, and pretty much everyone has their rosters set. Not to mention Myers is a pretty polarizing player, to put it lightly. Considering Vancouver is already probably down a defenseman in Poolman, having Myers as a warm body is better than trying to trade him at this point, if such a trade is going to cost Vancouver significant assets.

If Gudbranson can get 4M X 4yrs with Columbus I think there's a chance that a team would pony up for the size and a veteran leadership Myers brings.
