I think Gardiner will be gone before the trade deadline. Don't see the Canes trading Necas at the deadline, and for someone by your own admission has been 'hot and cold', and 'time to move on'. I think our big trade deadline acquisition will be one of our own, Max. But, hey appreciate you not throwing JVR at us. You guys are still trailing Toronto fans with Kerfoot.

Sanheim would be a borderline scratch in Calgary's d-core. No chance they are spending a 1st and a highly regarded prospect for him as a rental

Thought this is well done but maybe overly conservative.

Calgary has a crowded Blueline already. Not sure they need another D.

At TDL, I think this is selling low on JVR. If Rakell can pull 2nd, decent prospect and players feel like JVR could be more like 2nd, 3rd and a decent prospect (Savoie maybe - former 4th). Perhaps take a player back as needed.

If taking Gardiner (I assume cap dump) then probably need a first or two picks coming back. Konecny probably can get Necas +. 2nd would be the price to take Gardiner.

Why do you you think it would take a 1st or multiple picks to be rid of Gardiner at the deadline?

If anything, it would cost less to dump him then with most of his salary already paid and him not having any term.

My point was most GMs would ask for a pick to take that contract. Then you need Necas + for Konecny.

Read again. He wouldn't be a rental. He would be e-signed and no way in hell he'd be a borderline scratch.

He would be 3rd pairing on our team. And we won't be resigning him because we don't need him. We have Weegar to resign still who is getting at least 3 mill more. Thats means we have a 19 man roster with 5 mill

No it really wouldn't. If Gardiner plays well this season (because Carolina can afford him and will likely put him on the second powerplay unit) he will more than certainly gain value. His issue is that he was injured. When he's been on the ice, he's been worth his contract. This is what I don't get. When he's healthy he's fine. It's like Pacioretty. When Pacioretty is healthy, he's incredible. When he isn't he's an expensive decoration.

He would be at best the 5th best defenseman in Calgary so yes thats pretty damn close to a scratch when the other 2 defenseman (Zadorov and Kylington) ate arguably equally as effective in their own way

I like Gardiner and hoped he'd hit it in Toronto. But it never quite worked out. Good - sometimes. IMO (uninformed as it is compared to real scouts, pros) - lack of consistency kills. 3 hat tricks a year is great, but not if you score 12-15 goals a season (3-6 goals over 79 games). Gardiner is still a lot of 'what if'. If this season is another What If - he is a cap dump

Major disagree. Gardiner has been the hallmark of consistency throughout his career. Base totals won't often show it, but he's playing on a team that offensively restricts itself and he played most of his career on an awful Leafs squad. Analytically, he's always a positive asset to have, he creates FAR more than he concedes, and he is above replacement level defensively. Not by much, granted. But he's not a cap dump. 4 Mil is about right for him. His vision and passing have always been up there with the best in the NHL. His offensive prowess and ability to quarterback a powerplay are undeniable. He looks a little gormless sometimes, but that's very rare. Plus, I'd much rather he f*ck up in the 82 game part of the year, and not the best of 7s in May and June.
