Description
Top 4 is set for the future w/ Makar, Toews, Byram, and Manson. I like Girard a lot but he becomes expendable for the right piece. Miller would be a phenomenal addition for this year.

Colorado keeps the flexibility to accrue cap space throughout the year (macdermid can sub in up front or on D, same with Macdonald) and can make a splash at the deadline if they choose to. (would likely be a middle-six winger if kaut shows he cannot stick)

This seems pretty fair, the avs won last year with Girard only in the lineup for 7 games and JT would put them over the top. I like the conditions on the picks to offset any issues of him being a rental.

All rentals aren't equal. Miller has 217 points in 202 games as a canuck

If Crosby was in his last year would you not do it? You said rental

Girard is a small left handed D, we already have one of those. The fact that he can play the right side is interesting but that in itself doesn't make him the ideal candidate for our blueline. Canucks are not gonna trade Miller for some ones 3rd pair RD, pretty much straight up no matter how much YOU like him. Girard might be superfluous in Colorado, but Miller isn't in Vancouver.

Once again...they are not trading Girard for a rental. This is not a hard concept to grasp

So no, you wouldn't trade Girard for Crosby in the last year of his contract. Thank you

Way to cherry pick that point stat. Because in his other 435 career games he has 237 points. Why does that matter? Well in TB and NY he wasn’t the top banana and not playing 20 minutes a game. He isn’t getting 20 minutes a game TOI in COL, he likely isn’t getting PP1 time in COL, so tell me why COL would trade a top 4 dmen locked up for his entire prime for a guy they have zero chance of signing. But congratulations you are taking to your role of resident COL contrarian very well.

you are so obsessed with trading girard to satisfy your idea of they have to be cap compliant, is that your daily goal now?

Girard is only considered a 3rd pair D on Colorado. He would instantly become Vancouver's #2 D and a solid option to play behind hughes. Cost certainty for the next 5 years as well.

For Vancouver, they need to evaluating deals for Miller in terms of total future value. Yes, Miller will provide more value this year than Girard. But they can't afford to pay Miller's next contract and so the cumulative value of picking up a 3/4 D entering his prime years for 5 seasons outweighs having one season of Miller. conditional picks protect against Colorado re-signing Miller

You cannot make picks conditional on a player re-signing anymore, and I think there are better fits elsewhere for both players

“Why do you cherry pick stats”
It’s his last 3 seasons. What do you think a better description of a player. The guy he is and has been for several years, or the guy he was four years ago?

This isn't my AGM.

I made a Colorado AGM today and didn't trade Girard.

I don't think Colorado has to trade Girard this year.

I think they have cap issues next year DEPENDING ON THE CONTRACTS MACKINNON, BYRAM AND NEWHOOK RECIEVE

Trading Girard to sign those 3 makes sense as he has value and Colorado doesn't really have cap dumps to move.

You said your wouldn't trade Girard for a Rental, I provided a hypothetical and you won't answer and instead attack me personally

Same reason people call Mackinnon a 90 point player. Should I use earlier seasons and not call him a 90 point player?

How am I being a contrarian? I asked a question about a declarative statement

you tried to move the goal posts in your crusade of trading girard nonsense, this is about Miller and Girard.
No one personally attacked you, you are the one engaging constantly. Saying you obsessed with the avs cap...which is just a fact based on your recent engagement. Thats not an attack.

As far as the actual trade proposed, I see both sides of it and get both sides of it.

This is my AGM, and this is not done simply with the view of being cap compliant. It's about trading from an area of strength to address a relative weakness. Will Colorado make the playoffs with Mackinnon-Newhook-Compher down the middle? Yes. Is that enough center depth to win the Cup? I highly doubt that. Picking up Miller allows them to have the best 1-2 punch at C in the league while still having the best top 3 D in the league. Sounds alright to me

Well said. Again, B level offers aren't going to get it done until the trade deadline, if at all. Right now, there has to be a Devon Toews level right hand defenseman in the offer, or there's no deal.

the season hasnt started....there will be pending UFAs who wont be extending with their teams who could be available, there will be players who want a fresh start or request a trade that will be available, there will be teams who are under preforming and look at rebuilding, tearing down.

There will be options coming the TDL, more than you can assume at this moment
