In short,
- Helps Panthers cap
- They have Bob for 4 more years
- Knight is RFA next year
- Knight won’t want to sit for age 21-25 seasons
- Severson similar to Weegar
- Devils would make Knight 1A right away
- Knight grew up a little over an hour from here
- Hornqvist could also help us net-front

Absolutely not, Panthers aren’t trading Knight for anything less than a drastic overpayment

Weegar is not good so severson is much better but knight is not being traded for a 28 year old ufa. Knight isn’t going to jersey unless it’s a severe overpay

I think the trade is closer with severson, Foote Blackwood muk, and 1st 2023(top 2 protected) if this years first is top 2 you get next years and this years 3rd or something like that. It’s a lot to give up, specially when Blackwood has shown signs of being a 1a before injury but now Florida would have to take that gamble. Not sure I like it for either team, both have a chance to look very bad.

Severson is a UFA and like Weegar will be looking for a max contract….no thanks. Hughes, unprotected 1st, and whatever else Zito would ask for. Devils shouldn’t pay it but Zito shouldn’t consider anything less.

Severson would extend...not sure what Weegar was asking, but am guessing Severson contract will be close. 6-7 years around $6.5 million.

So say Knight asks for 5-year, $5 million extension, to be signed before this season for years 2023-28.
Zito says ok? Or asks him to do 2-3 years at $2 million to sit as back-up just a few years more?

Why not move him for a much needed dman in their competitive window and find a cheap back-up? Its just smart asset management.

No it isn’t unless Zito believes in Guzda that much. If he does then you can trade Knight but it would be to regain at least some of the draft picks and prospects that were lost in trading for Rhino, Chairot, and Giroux

We have plenty of prospects and draft picks.

How about something like:

One of - Severson, Graves (extension is up to you)
One of - Foote, Zetterlund, Bahl, Walsh, Thompson (or similar)
One of - Blackwood, Daws, Vanecek, Schmid, Brennan (goalies)
One of - 2023 protected 1st, 2024 unprotected 1st
One of - 2023 2nd, 2024 2nd (whichever year you don't take the 1st)

If Zito had to take one of the first two it would be Severson but no extension. Hughes is the D they would probably want. 2023 is unprotected and a 2024 second. If Severson isn’t included then add the 2024 first. Again Devils shouldn’t even think about this, this is probably the minimum to get Zito interested in my opinion.

It’s hard to understate how bad our goaltending was last year. Even with average goaltending, we probably would have been on playoff bubble.

I would do Severson and a 1st (not either Hughes).

Respect it, but sadly it’s probably a no from Zito. Only exception is again if Zito has that much confidence in Guzda.
