I doubt there will be much interest from the Leafs side. They are just taking on a lot of bad cap, 1.6 mil for a 4th liner and 1,375,000 dead cap in the AHL, and paying in more useful players as well as a pick to do it.

Yeah, I agree not ideal - but somehow salary has to move out. And it may mean having to add assets or taking something back that you don’t want.

They'd be better off having paid a 3rd to move out Kerfoot, and it's not likely they would have to pay to do it, then burying Holl without taking anything back. They'd be left with 2 mil to make moves elsewhere. There's just no 'why' here to taking on all the bad cap.

I could see maybe something like Kerfoot and Holl for Pearson and Schenn, but not Poolman. That’s too much cap and term for the leafs.

What 4th liner is putting up a .5 PPG?

I would keep Pearson over Kerfoot and Poolman will either be effective this year or put on LTIR. No need to take Holl . There is no way Leafs and Nucks are trading this year. Definitely would not do Schenn for Holl.

Kerfoot has an advantage of only having 1 year left on his contract when compared to Pearson and Holl is a definate upgrade over Poolman and again only has 1 left on his contract.

Yeah but I don't like Kerfoot and I do like Pearson. I think Pearson is a solid all around player and on a good contract . I don't want anything to do with Kerfoot so I don't care he has one year left.

I really doubt Poolman will play a game this year. I think when Rutherford said he is concerned about his head injury I took that as he better be damn good or we will put him on LTIR like Ferland.

I actually prefer Pearson over Kerfoot as well and think he is a solid character player behind the scenes on a hockey team as well.

This is a pretty well thought out trade and it makes a ton of sense. I'd seriously consider it.

The Canucks absolutely have to move a winger before the season starts and Pearson is probably the ideal one for the organization. Kerfoot fills an immediate need at 3C and he's from the West coast say maybe he re-signs at a reasonable rate.

This improves Vancouver's cap space situation a ton as well.

It's more that the Canucks can't take on any cap. I think it's relatively fair but Vancouver can't afford it

Kerfoot having just 1 year remaining isn't any sort of advantage, because Pearson isn't a cap dump. Holl is not necessarily an upgrade over Poolman, not fair to judge since Poolman struggled to stay healthy last year

Everyone values players differently I guess; Pearson would be a 3rd or 4th liner on Leafs. He’d see no PP time on Leafs and he’s averaged <15 goals at 5v5 past few seasons. This is not a hockey trade (leafs don’t need either player and you are saying neither do canuckles); main point is leaf’s get cap relief this year, Canucks next

Pearson might get 2nd unit PP time, you never know, and he'd play on their 2nd/3rd line most likely if Kerfoot is getting moved

Not saying Pearson is not useful, but Personally I prefer Kerfoot - hard to argue with the stats, 51 pts all 5v5 vs Pearson’s 31 - but the real attraction. was 1 year of Kerf @ $3.5 vs 2 years of Pearson @ $1.625 (50 % retention). Seemed to address both sides most pressing issue

The salary retention on Pearson makes no sense at all for Vancouver, you aren't considering the other team's needs

That’s not true - Canucks owe Pearson $6.5M over 2 years, they’ll pay more of that in 2022 ($3.5M kerf + $1.625M retained) but less in 2023 ($1.625 M retained). Same money, but freed up cap space for Canucks next year when it is more critical - just imo, could be wrong.. Opposite for leafs - they pay less this year (only $1.625 vs $3.5) when it is more critical but more next year ($1.625 vs 0). I believe kerf is better player but leaving that aside this is jut about shifting money to most advantageous year for each team

If Kerfoot is the better player, he's not better by very much. I don't care what Pearson is owed in actual dollars after signing bonuses, it makes no sense for the Canucks to retain salary on him
