Klinger on a short term deal

Description
As I was doing this, I realized there are way too many hoops to jump through to sign Klingberg... It isn't going to happen because the whole league knows Faksa sucks and I don't really know the draw to Gurianov anymore, should have traded him 2 years ago when he led the team in scoring. But I do not see a path to klingberg with Faksa/gurianov/Khudobin all remaining on the team.

Gurianov trade is terrible for Dallas. He’s got to be worth more than a 4th even in this market.

Not too far off based on the Norris deal. Only issue is Robertson may be closer to Tkachuck territory in terms of talent.

It would take a 2nd to move Khudobin alone, let alone dumping Faksa as well

Yea, maybe but I would be trying to get closer to Filip Forsbergs deal.

Playoff Robertson worries me, he disappeared, I think he will live up to any contract under 8.25, anything above that is a huge gamble considering they have to find $ to sign Roope Hintz. Benn and Seguin contracts really hurt Dallas in terms of free money to give away. Maybe they go short term with robo and then pay him when Benn's contract comes off the books three years from now.

This is not a team I want to be a GM of right now. Way too many bad contracts.

On your Gurianov trade, maybe he is but to me I would dump him for a cheeseburger. He is a one dimensional player that panics under pressure and I don't see Dallas extending him past this year so anything is better than nothing.

I remember another Russian winger who struggled heavily in Dallas and found success elsewhere. Gurianov has a lot of talent and was good during their cup run. Imo he’s the type of guy Lou should target in a buy low deal, but to add another winger to the isles roster they need to move Beau or Bailey.

Giving up Guri and at least a first round pick (nobody is taking those two guys for a second) just to sign a defenseman that I’m not convinced is a net positive given how bad he has gotten defensively is horrible asset management. It also pushes Harley out of the top six, who can produce offense and be better defensively at near league minimum. +/- is a flawed statistic that requires context to be useful, but I can tell you that a defenseman being a -30 on a playoff team is trash. Letting Klinger go is the right move. I’ll bet good money that we are as good or better without him at 5v5. The only place losing him hurts is on the power play. Hopefully somebody can step up there. Running a second unit putting emphasis on Guri’s shot from the slot would help significantly. You know… the guy you pitched for a fourth rounder

Y’all need to calm down on this JRob and Oetter stuff. Oetter hasn’t even played 100 games. JRob struggled against a tight checking Calgary team. Guys making that kind of money are the ones that always find a way. Give JRob a three year bridge and make him show you he’s one of those guys. It was his first playoffs and we didn’t have anybody dangerous behind the top line so I’ll cut him a little slack. But I’m also not ready to back the truck up for him

It’s funny… most Stars fans are all ready to give JRob the moon. The same fans that wanted to give Benn and Segs the moon. The same fans that now complain about us having all this money going to Benn and Segs

Nice to know I’m not the only one disappointed with JRob’s playoff performance. As I said in another post it was his first playoffs and there did seem to be nerves etc. We also had horrible coaching and no scoring depth so it was pretty easy for Calgary to key on him. So give him the three year bridge at low to mid six million and let him earn a fat contract when Benn is gone

Yea, personally i would bridge both of them 3X6 and 3X3 for Robo and Otter respectively.

I think both will get a little more. Low to mid 6 for JRob. Mid to high 3 for Oetter. Which coincidentally is exactly how much cap space we have with no other moves so I’m hoping Nill has exactly that in mind

    - Take 2 years and $1M off of Oettinger's contract

    - If Robertson is getting a 7-year deal, you might as well give him an 8-year contract and he should see $8M per AAV for that kind of contract

    - This is ABSOLUTELY a team you should want to be a GM of. Sure, there are a couple of bad contracts, but most teams have a bad contract or two they would love to get rid of. But the Stars have a young core of Robertson, Hintz, Oettinger, and Heiskanen along with 3 high end prospects in Johnston, Stankoven and Bourque. Add in to that the fact that they have all but 2 of their draft picks for the next 3 years, and this team is in a great position for whatever GM comes in after Nill is gone

    - You should definitely not be trying to dump Gurianov. Kid has been in the most offensive-suffocating systems since he came into the league. Montgomery's system was a little more conducive to his play style and it resulted in his best year. You can't judge a purely offensive player by how he played in Bowness' system. At 25 years old, he finally gets a coach that will take the reigns off a little bit. He's primed for a breakout season & you're valuing him like he's Luke Glendening or Joel Kiviranta. HARD pass on that Gurianov trade
