Nobody is giving up a first for Drouin and probably not a 2nd either. Dadonov certainly does not get a first considering he’s been cap dumped twice in the past year. Byron is a cap dump. Allen is worth more

Avs will give you Kaut OR a third for Drouin as long as you retain 50% of salary.

1st - Cap dump at a time CGY had no cap to be in on Dadanov
2nd -43 points shows he was productive earning his cap
3rd- VGK screwed themselves with Eichel having to gift almost a Point Per Game Player in Pacioretty to you guys
They'll have to dump another 7m atleast to skate a 23 man roster

Context being that not every team is so desperate
Those who are giving away productive players signed way to many players to high value deals with term
There's maybe 5 teams in the NHL who had this business model
Not Everyone is giving away players as productive as Dadanov
Actually there's different players from many other teams with a worse production to cap ratio who are getting paid

VGK made the deal for Weber's contract for a reason
It had more value to provide cap relief them paying to dump enough salary to keep Dadanov was worth.
You see this in the NBA all the time and as time goes on you'll see it more and more in the NHL as teams over pay players with term

Even Sam Bennet got a Prospect and a 2nd
He was Way more inconsistent then Drouin and would have the basically same cap him with 50% RS
Without RS sure Kaut or a 3rd might make sense
With RS it doesnt

Easier to wait to the TDL if thats all thats offered
Fringe teams not looking to spend much will gamble on him if nothing else

That’s a “No” from the Sabres
1- asking for a 3rd is utterly ridiculous
2- no interest in Byron anyways

U guys can keep your $3.4mil bottom6 forward,
who would just be a rental for us btw

No thanks

Vegas screwed themselves with that Martinez contract, them trading for Dadonov in the first place was dumb.

I like Drouin but he's got anxiety issues, is nowhere near as defensively responsible as Bennett, is a year older than Bennett and costs over $1mm more per year than Bennett (Bennett was only making $2.55mm when he was traded, too). Fringe teams won't gamble on Drouin with 1 year remaining on his contract unless he's cheap. Bennett is penalized a lot but also draws a ton of penalties, but his defensive ability along with a scoring touch, along with other elements, makes Bennett a more desirable player.

Sabres aren't taking cap dumps at this time. They don't have a spot for Byron.

Agreed but Dadanov earned his money
Beyond that before Eichel they were already going to have to move term
After Eichel just made it the NHL's 3-4th worst cap managed team to #1 undisputed by about 10m cap

Martinez was lik 33 or 34 at the time?
His injury issues became clear the last 2-3 years in LAK
VGK knew exactly what they were overpaying to land and the risks
They recieve no pity or empathy there from me.
It was a consicience choice to bone themselves
If he wasnt straight up declining in his ability to make it to the ice period
Then maybe its up for debate but it was clear he was heading to Retirement

That's the issue with VGK
They just sign people and assume they can more them as long as they're productive.
Those days are over and now the NHL has become more like the NBA where contracts define you not play.
There's a number of NBA players who's contract eclipsed their very high value and saw teams have to pay to move them.
We've seen it start with almost point per game players and 2 x Stanley Cup Champs(3 finals straight) given away
It will continue to trend this way because Contending Teams know the NHL wont enforce penalties for their cap overage's just at best force a trade.
What do they really lose there for abusing the system? Nothing
What do the fans lose ? Quality
