Description
Guys. Jeff Carter has actually been one of our more consistent players through out the year. He only went through 3 slumps throughout the year where wasn’t recording points. That was 2 5 games slumps and one 6 game slump. He had 26 points up to the all star break and 19 points after. And then playoff time? You guys forget he was once again one of the more consistent players on the ice? That’s 28 goals and 28 assists in a total of 90 regular season games and playoffs?! Jesus guys. That’s 8 goals and 2 assists in 13 PLAYOFF GAMES. And y’all want him to retire or be traded? What for?! He doesn’t provide that production for no freakin reason. The only thing is he definitely isn’t a second liner any more. But that doesn’t mean he’s bad. He was literally having to play a two way game and played a role on one of the leagues TOP PENALTY KILL PERCENTAGE. I guess I’m just tired of seeing Jeff Carter slander. It just seems like a lot other Pens fans want him to be scoring 40 goals and 40 assists on the 3rd or 4th line or something. I just don’t know why he’s so under appreciated.

Agreed. Last year he tailed off at the end in terms of his speed and stamina, he looked A BIT older and slower. But this is just cause he was overused this year. I believe he was 5th in ice time or something due to all the injuries early in the year. If he can get a consistent role and get less responsibilities he will be good for his 20 goals

77 is a hell of a player, there's no doubting or denying that, like Hullsy said we need to build a team that allows him to play 3rd line minutes and dominate on the PK, as well as the 2nd power play unit.

The only people allowed to slander Jeff Carter are Jackets fans with long memories.

That’s what I was thinking as well. As long as he isn’t having to take over on the 2nd line for half a season I think things will go smoothly. With Geno pretty much at 100% I think Jeff’s role can be reduced to where he isn’t being overplayed

When geno goes down let Ryan poehling play 2C. See what he can do. At least he is young and won’t have any conditioning issues like carter would

The slander might be a little overdone but it's very fair to criticize him. He put up decent point totals because he was used more but his underlying numbers were absolutely terrible. You need to look at the entire picture, not just how many points they have. You can score 40 goals but if the other team scores 80 with you on the ice you didn't have a good year.

He was one of the worst performing forwards on the team in the regular season - and was frighteningly bad in the playoffs. If you can keep him at 3C for the whole year he should be okay - lower point total but better possession numbers.

The guy literally played half a year on the second line and played a role on a top 3 PK in the league. It doesn’t really help he has to be the best player on his lines 🤷🏽‍♂️

I'm aware. I'm just saying you have to look at the full picture. He put up solid 3C points and had a great FO%, but his underlying numbers were awful. Sure some of it came from overuse - but if you have to worry about overuse that's still a negative for a player.

Playing on the 2nd line also boosted his point total. He was 5th amongst forwards on the team in average PK time - it's not like he was dragging the PK to a good percentage.

He should be fine if he just has to play 3C - and he was elite in the faceoff circle. But it's fair to point out that his underlying numbers were arguably the worst on the entire team - even when he was playing 3C - and he was an absolute detriment to the team in the playoffs.

You just completely ignored that I said he had to be the best player on his line. He never played with anyone that was as consistent. And the only player he had chemistry with he never got to play with him the whole season. That was Heinen

I didn't ignore it - it just doesn't mean anything.

Heinen and Carter were just okay together - Carter was obviously holding Heinen back too. You ever stop to think that the fact nobody was consistent on Carter's line and he didn't have chemistry with anyone was his fault? Thats why basically everyone had better numbers when they weren't on his line.

You can't say he never got to play with Heinen the whole season when that was pretty much his most common LW.
