Both Sammy and Peterka would make CGY's lineup; picks added as needed to match on value. Also a LOT of value in the fact that Sammy and Peterka are cost controlled for a long time

Value aside, the Ducks simply can not trade way 10m in salary and take none back in that deal. Trading Gibson means they'd have no starter and there's zero market to get one now. Trading Shattenkirk means they'd have 1 RHD on the roster, the 20-yr old Drysdale. Options to add a RHD are super limited.

On so many levels this doesn't make any sense.

Guess it depends on how you look at it. They got 2 ufa players at the end of the year.
It's good return for the year to try and stay competitive not a great look for the future.
