I get the logistics of the Krug trade, but Calgary doesn't really need D help as much as wingers. Barbashev alone isn't a good enough prospect IMO. I don't see it happening without Kyrou or including taresenko and having a third team facilitate a trade.

Yeah this ain't it. But I will say I don't think the "sweepstakes" is what people think it is and I don't think Calgary is getting what alot of people are thinking they're gonna get. It will be a haul but I dont think it will include the kind of roster players I've heard floated around. I'm actually pretty convinced the only team Tkachuk is willing to extend long term with is St.louis and Treliving is holding his cards, bluffing in hopes of driving up the return.

Genuine question: do you actually think Tank is worth that much as a pending UFA considering your cap situation?

Barbashev isn't a prospect, he's an established middle 6 winger that is a UFA next summer.
Krug isn't worth his contract, there is a reason Blues fans are trying to dump him everywhere., I wouldn't take that contract without a pretty decent sized sweetener.
Kostin doesn't seen to be growing as a player, after 4 years in the AHL and another back in Russia, he can't secure an NHL job and isn't even waiver eligible any more.
1st will be a late 1st

this is a bad offer.

1 - Hot Dog Phil will NEVER play for Berube, and certainly not at that whackadoo salary. That's NEVER happening.

2- New Jersey would block your calls for that one.

3- I cannot imagine that Calgary would take that for Matty. If they somehow did, Doug Armstrong should be made emperor of the galaxy.

Tkachuk only willing to sign in STL ****s him too as they can lowball him. So Tkachuk will also want multiple teams thinking he will sign there so he can cash in big and create a bidding war of his own

I know the list of preferred destinations that leaked was more or less debunked, but if you look at the teams that were there (NSH, VGK, DAL, FLA, STL) they were all states with no income tax, plus his hometown. So just as you said, the theory of finding the best offers and bringing them to STL to leverage a bigger payday is pretty sound.

Oh man, you were sooooooooooooooo close. All of this analysis is spot friggin on... until you get to Krug. First of all, he's very much worth his contract now. The issue with him is the term. And frankly, by the end of it, if he stays in one piece, he'll provide plenty of value for a probably half that term or so and not seem like such a major anchor over the remainder. He's not a cap dump by any stretch of the imagination, and the reason everyone is trading him is sacrifices need to be made when chasing Tkachuk. It's not because he's not appreciated or falls short of being a vital cog to this team. Obviously the gamble of his remaining term and age means he shouldn't draw a full value return, but the idea that the Blues would need to shell out a bunch of prizes to move him is kooky. The biggest issue of all is his full NTC until 2025. He can nix some things that might otherwise work.

It was also Eric Feancis that debunked it, and all the sources on the rumor of him wanting out are Rutherford and Francis. I'm still not convinced it's true

I'm not saying Krug is a pure cap dump, but dude has only been paid $8m of his contract and has 5 years remaining, the remaining dollars are larger than the cap hit and if we're retooling we need to be aware of those things because ticket sales will drop some and the Saddledome isn't a revenue generator like new rinks. So I'd still want a sweetener of a late 1st/equivalent prospect to take him

St Louis fans seem content on not giving up any good prospects. I agree. I just think a 3rd team would be required so St Louis can shed cap and Calgary can get an additional young forward.

Blues fans are happy to part with prospects. Just not all of them at once in a massive overpay that doesn't come close to matching the leverage situation. Actually, there's a not insignificant percentage of Blues fans that would do that, too.

If there was ever a team or Tkachuk that would sign a fair deal together its this team and this Tkachuk. He wants to be here and would likely be fine with not getting the kind of cash some other teams could throw at him. The Blues aren't going to get some steal of a contract but I believe it will be good for both parties. I'm guessing anywhere from 8.5-9.5 × 8

So this is what I dont understand. There are people saying that Kryou is the better or will be the better player. Of course I dont agree. So if MT gets in the range of 9M to say 11M that would make me think tend to think Kryou would then get a similiar or higher AAV! But I personally think he will be in that 7 to 8M range just under Thomas. While Kryou is a speedy and dynamic player I would trade him for MT. I am really even more confused why Calgary already turned Krug, Kyrou, 1st down? Is it they want someone with term back? Maybe they dont value Krug? That honestly seems pretty fair. Sure you could say Krug salary is bad by year 4 or 5 but thats hard to say.
