Main talking points:
- In a "perfect world" the Islanders add an offensive d-man and a defensive d-man
- The Isles are "open to anything" involving the 13th pick
- Regarding the UFA market "we'll be as active as we can to make us better"
- The Isles are not worried about Dobson being offer sheeted

Why not? The 13th pick, an immediate replacement in the top-6 (with some term and palatable AAV) and a lottery ticket RD which they need isn't enough? The negotiations are not close and this provides plenty of flexibility for Vancouver heading into the draft weekend. Still a stronger return than what Fiala got

its not enough for miller because his reputation and cap hit will drive his price up. He's a forward to acquire if your team is 1 piece away from being a contender, not 4-5 like the isles

If VAN wants the flexibility now rather than waiting for the TDL, who tops this? Genuinely curious. Only team that comes to mind is possibly NYR. Don't see NJ/PHI moving their respective top-5 picks and OTT shouldn't move 7 because they're further away than us

And EDIT: I made this exact deal a couple years ago and you implied it was too much/would drive the Isles to a rebuild. Sooo which is it? Lol

what the canucks want and need more than anything is a legit RD prospect. beau doesn’t fit what they’re trying to accomplish in a miller trade at all and wilde isn’t an nhl player.

WSH: mcmichael , Alexeyev, 1st

PIT: Marino, Kapanen, and a 1st

I stand by that, Isles under no circumstances should be giving their 1st rd pick for a player approaching 30. I'm just saying that VAN would want more than this.

Don't want Wilde, but would take Bolduc, Dufour and a high pick

The 1st + Beauvillier is a good start, but everyone and their dog knows Bode Wilde is a problem player and likely not going to be playing in the NHL.

All three of those things? I think Bolduc is the only piece there the Isles would add

It's the vaccine status keeping him overseas at the moment. Not sure what VAN's policies are or that of Canada's for travel. I actually don't think he's a bad player. Pre-covid when in BPT the coaching staff really liked him and thought he was a coachable player

Wilde has had character issues since before his draft, that's why he plummeted from a 1st round pick to mid-2nd.

And the Bridgeport staff refuted all of that years ago. Overblown IMO. This is vaccine status only as the reason he isn't here

That's fine he had no problems in Bridgeport, but that is definitely the reason Wilde fell from in the draft.

If because of vaccine status he won't/can't come to America, what makes you think the Canucks trade for him?

I don't, but I'm saying the guy isn't a total dud of an asset if the Nucks are cool with his vax status. I'd swap him for Sam Bolduc, but he's a LD.

Even Bolduc doesn't get it done. Canucks would need a blue-chip prospect, not D-tiers.

I know the Isles' prospect cupboard is pretty bare, so unless it's Wahlstrom or the 2023 1st coming back with Beauvillier+2022 1st, there's no deal to be had with NYI.

That's way too high IMO. You probably aren't *that* far away from DeBrincat with another piece or two added

Well yeah, I'd rate Miller as equal value to DeBrincat.

DeBrincat is younger and the more natural goal scorer, while Miller is far more versatile. He plays the more demanding position, is one of the best guys on the dot in the league, can defend well, plays the PK/PP, and has had better production over the past 3 seasons.

It's more than enough to acquire Miller. If it's not, Miller isn't being traded. End of story
