Isles aren’t trading Beauvillier + for Girard imo. Girard’s numbers benefit from the fact the Avs roster was so ****ing good last year.

Then the Isles aren't trading for Girard, it's that simple. He's signed to an extremely team-friendly deal for the next five years and has been incredibly consistent throughout his career. For reference, Dougie Hamilton (7 years x $9m) had 30 points last year; Girard (7 x $5m) had 28 points last year. He's not going to come cheap in any trade

Hamilton is a completely different player so I think that’s a very unfair comparison. Also I think Avs fans probably over value him like most fans over value their best trade chip.

I think once u asked the isles to do more than a one for one deal then Lou would back out.

The Avs overvalue their 24 year old top 4 defenseman with term and don’t want to trade him for rentals and scrap picks? Alrighty then.

Whenever I watch Girard he reminds me way too much of Gostisbehere for me to think he’s that valuable. He’s gonna put up great numbers on the Avs but I just don’t know if he could replicate it in NY.

Hamilton is without a doubt the better player, but go look at their stats and tell me that they're not similar. I think you'll be surprised. As for value, defensemen are inherently more valuable than forwards. You also can't disregard the deal he's signed to, which holds immense value

I mean Hamilton is a 6-5 righty who plays in all situations and Girard is a 5-10 lefty. That’s all I said in the comment you replied to.

I never said the stats weren’t similar if ur just looking at points. I’m saying the way you get there as a 6-5 righty and a 5-10 lefty is completely different. Girard’s entire game is based on being an offensive defenseman and Hamilton is more of an all around guy.

I think Girard is a good player on a good team, but idk that he makes ur team better on his own. I mean that’s just my opinion based on when I saw him play at Belmont last year. Avs crushed the Isles but Girard was unimpressive imo.

impossible to say. i cant imagine a huge drop but the islanders forwards aren't as good.

at the same time avs are taking a huge risk with beau. he's very streaky and even a healthy scratch this year for the islanders.

He shouldn’t have been a healthy scratch tho. There’s a reason Barry was fired and whether other fanbases want to believe that or not isn’t under my control. Trotz scratched Bellows too for half the year even tho he was on a 35 point pace and Bellows did it with limited ice time on a line with Austin ****ing Czarnik.

Beau was very good for the isles in two straight conference finals runs. Can’t say the same for Girard because of the fact he was hurt. When you factor in the injury risk and playoff performance of both players I don’t c why Isles would make that move.

yes he should have been he was scratched. he gave up on a defensive play while also being pointless in his last 13 games.

There’s a very good chance that beau thrives in Colorado and Girard falters in NYI. I don’t think beau comes with any risk for the Avs because of how good the guys around him would be lol. Beau plays well when he isn’t playing with trash or being tortured by Barry lol.

I remember the counting stats, but that doesn’t mean it was all on Beau. Barry put him in a position to fail. Same thing happened with bailey. That being said Bailey rallied at the end of the year with Palmieri and Pageau. The reality is trotz didn’t put his guys in a position to succeed for most of the season. The Lee-Barzal-Palmieri line was doomed from the beginning and Trotz was either unwilling or unable to see that Beau should’ve been playing with Barzal and Palmieri all year long.

For the record, Girard had more defensive zone starts than Hamilton this year, so let's not call him an all-around guy. He's a offense first defenseman. Does he have the benefit of being a righty and being 6'5? No doubt, but when it comes to turnovers/takeaways, they are remarkably similar. Go look at their Corsi % and Fenwick %.

Not trying to say Girard is the next coming of Jesus here, but he's consistently underrated and undervalued because of his size. He's not going to blow your socks off, but he's a solid defenseman and IMO, worth far more than Varly and a couple of 2nds.

Zone starts are important no doubt, but guys get more offensive zone for a variety of reasons so it’s hard to say how much that matters. A lot of that comes down to usage and the coaching scheme tbh.

He’s not underrated. He was the second best lefty on the Avs before Byram and now he’s their 3rd best lefty. His cap hit is five million a year which isn’t some huge bargain for a guy who doesn’t kill penalties.

Girard actually started in the offensive zone 52% of the time at even strength and Hamilton was at 51.6% at even strength. Just thought that was worth mentioning.
