Why would the Avs do that? Give up 5 years of a 24yr old top pairing capable dman for a goaLie COL already let go once and a couple of picks that might be players in 3-5 years. COL passes on that.

yea but were not looking to move girard for a passenger. he's got to be able to drive play too.

I always think Beau has a positive impact on possession when he plays, but I don’t have a subscription to evolving hockey or something like that so idk what the analytics community says. All IK is that Girard is an undersized d man on a very good team and I’m not sure how successful he would be elsewhere.

He’s not underrated. He was the second best lefty on the Avs before Byram and now he’s their 3rd best lefty. His cap hit is five million a year which isn’t some huge bargain for a guy who doesn’t kill penalties.
except he does kill penalties he just isn’t a primary killer, but why would he with the Avs d-corp. you’re making it sound like being behind one of the 10 best defensive dman, and a kid who has the potential to be a top 10 dman in the whole league and was drafted 4th overall is something to be ashamed of. And for what it’s worth Girard can play both sides and got his pts with basically zero PP1 time where as Hamilton qb’s NJD pp1.

Seeing comparisons to Hamilton is a stretch to me, but over their careers Girard has had bizarrely similar analytics numbers to Chychrun. Problem is Chychrun is 4” taller so people give him more credit.

I defend Girard a lot on here, but I won’t say he’s perfect. He’s smaller has to rely on stick work more than using his body to make defensive plays. He has his flashy spinoramas that don’t always translate into high impact plays. His shot isn’t a major threat.

But: he’s a top 4 defenseman on every team in the league and probably top pairing on teams without the Norris winner and a top 10 Norris finisher. He is elite at puck retrievals and zone entries/exits. He plays 20+ minutes a night, including on challenging defensive match ups. And he can QB a power play. When his contract ends in 5 years, he’ll only be 29.

Girard is not perfect, but he’s really damn good. Avs would be foolish to sell him off for most of the proposals on Capfriendly.

He is 24 and his career high is around 68 minutes on the PK. It’s not like he’s ever done it or proven he can. Also in NY Girard would be behind Dobson and maybe Pulock in terms of PP time.

68 in 48 games, and like I said not the primary pk. You don’t want to run him on PP1 that’s fine it doesn’t change his value or the fact he is a puck moving dman capable of playing top pairing minutes locked up long term.

I’m just saying if he’s not gonna play significant minutes special teams then what’s fair value here? And how valuable is that contract if he can’t handle his primary job as a defenseman.

Girard’s ATOI over the last 3 seasons is 21:39, 23:13, and 21:19. That’s more than Pelech, Pulock, and Dobson (21:17, 21:08, 21:28 respectively last year). The only reason Girard doesn’t play more in Colorado is because he’s teammates with the best defenseman in the world and Devon Toews (who finished top 10 in Norris voting).

Islanders don’t run their guys into the ground. According to hockey reference Girard had a negative relative corsi at even strength, on the PP and PK, and a negative corsi when games were tied or close.

Just to clarify Girard is so much worse than the three guys you listed it’s not even funny.

You missed the point. Girard can play big minutes in a lot of roles. He played more minutes per game this year than any player on the Islanders that’s not a goalie. Over his career he has had favorable advanced statistics, although some of that this year was pulled down by being paired with Jack Johnson for most of the season.

I already commented that the guy is not perfect by any means. But you’re cherry picking random stats to justify your prior that a 5’10 defenseman can only be an offense only PP QB.

I’m not comparing their on ice impact, that wouldn’t be productive. I’m comparing the fact that Girard can play big minutes and has done so for his entire career.

You are ignoring the fact he can’t penalty kill and that he’s eating minutes on a team with Jack and Erik Johnson. Comparing Girard to Pulock, Pelech or Dobson is incredibly ignorant and you know it.

Avs won the cup as soon as he got hurt. Not saying that’s the reason they won, but he doesn’t penalty kill and wouldn’t run either of the isles power play units. Ur overvaluing him to a tremendous degree.

The Avs won the cup after he got hurt because he got hurt in round 2. Round 3 and round 4 come after round 2.

This website makes my brain hurt sometimes. We’re almost to page 3 lmao, I’m done here.
