Alright this is my second crack at this team, a couple different moves/reasons for moves this time around.
I'm assuming Martinez isnt returning and is done, so under these circumstances, his contract is being sent as an LTIR piece, not as a player.
Patches just isnt working out well in Vegas anymore, and Lehner probably will ask for a trade. To avoid the NTC, Carolina takes them both, trades Raanta for Lehner, the 2 2nd rounders for Pacioretty, and Gardiner is there to ease up the hit to carolina's cap table.
Gardiner to EDM can easily be a win for both sides. EDM can replace Keith for the upcoming season should they move him or he retires, but since Gardiner has been anything but good, the return is low and only has a year left. Vegas gets him off the books and a late round pick out of it.
Went after Husso on the FA market, because as much as I would love Fleury back, he's not the same nor do I think he wants to go back to Vegas.
Traded Thompson to the Blues because they need a #2 goalie behind Binnington
I tried to give all that I could for Kane, Dorofeyev was the HSK's top scorer, Chayka seems to be the top d prospect from the HSK, Roy is young and coming off a very good year, and stephenson has always played very well since coming here. all that along with both firsts and one of the two seconds is for Kane, and the other is for Dach, who actually seems to be headed to a new destination this off season. If yall think the comp is off lmk.
I think Kane gives this team championship pedigree and experience, an additional scoring threat
and a rock to rely on through any losing streaks and injuries to others.
Giving Will Butcher a chance to revive his market value on a cheap contract
Before Yall go murdering me on the Kane trade, I don't think Kane will actually get traded, but if I were GM I would pursue him, and I would offer the best I got, which is what I sent.
Who is going to be eating the salary on both Lehner and Patches then? Because for this to work, Canes will need half retention on both. And if the Vegas thinks they can get a 6th for Gards from Edmonton, Canes will just cut out the middle man in that deal.

They have Cap play this year cause Nino is coming off the books, his cap hit was 5.25, plus the hits of Domi and Trocheck are coming off the books. add Gardiner too thats plenty for the combined 12 of Lehner and Pacioretty. They could totally cut out the middle man, it could be formed as a 3 way trade, but for CapFriendly, I cant do that on Armchair Gm otherwise I would
We would rather just pay the 6th to move Gardiner then pay a lot less for you to dump patches on us.
Patches isnt a cap dump, its to replace nino for this year, and either return to carolina for cheaper or hit FA. Lehner is in there cause Freddie is an FA next year. Canes can rock with those two this coming year or trade freddie if they so choose. Next year theyll have at minimum 11.5 million to replace or re-sign two guys. Add that to whoever else they may need to re-sign, and their cap hits coming off the books, its future cap space while remaining in contention.
Apologies if I’m uninformed here, but where is it being said that Martinez is a “LTIR piece”. Is he reported as healthy?
I say this because if Knights (or third team) can retain on him to get his number down to $4m he’d be a perfect piece on a contending teams 2nd or even 3rd pairing.
This an absurd amount of mostly bad or unnecessary moves
It's really to free up down the line cap space. I think it looks a lot different if I didn't have to put the Reilly Smith contract in there. I didn't trade patches before the Smith contract, but now to fill out 4 full lines, thats gotta be one of the moves. I dealt McNabb cause of his term. It makes Vegas a free agency player because they haven't been that since they arrived.

He had a serious eye injury last season, it's said it could potentially be career ending. I'm assuming the worst, but I wouldn't be surprised if he comes back, and in that case youre absolutely right.

I also totally just realized I couldve done cash/future considerations for gardiner instead of a 6th. Didnt think of it till now

Seeing his injury history, age, and that Vegas still has cap issues , he isn’t a piece with a ton of value. The Canes would likely take a shot due to the low risk factor but they aren’t paying for him
Patches isn't working out in Vegas anymore? He played 39 games this year, had 19 goals and 37 points. In world is that not working out?
Cap hit and injury history. and plus now with the smith contract, he's one of the few I'm willing to deal. Before the Smith extention he would stay and play 2nd or 1st line, but now since Vegas is bingo on cap (again) and theres still Roy, Howden, Hague, and Kolesar to bring back, that 7 mil is looking mighty valuable

Fair. He has a modified NTC, so i can't dump him to arizona or something like that tho, I gotta be realistic. I think a change of scenery and in imo a better organization will lead to his production growing tho. It's also nice cause he's got one year left and frees cap space up next year while still getting good play this year.

Adding Smith is not hard. Move out Brossoit and Martinez. Then you are done. No reason to make insane changes

You don't have a complete set of 4 forward lines if you just do that. I know for a fact Cassidy likes to roll 4 lines. I made the change in net because I'm under the assumption Lehner may ask for a trade sooner rather than later. He might not now with Deboer gone, but I wouldn't be surprised if he still did. Not to mention his struggles last year when healthy anyways. the changes also give something that neither team or coach has had in a couple years and that's scoring depth. You're bashing your head into a brick wall if you don't make some changes. Add in the fact that every year Vegas has made a big change, despite going deep into the playoffs 3 out of 4 times previous to this year, IMO It doesn't make sense not to the one year you don't. I wish they had kept as much of the squad together after losing to Montreal and made the changes this year, but thats just me.

Wdym?
Patches - Eichel - Stone
March - Karlsson - Smith
Roy - Stephenson - Patrick
Howden - Carrier - Kolesar
That's insane scoring depth. They were plagued by injuries all season making rash trades would be moronic
