I have higher expectations for all of these trades from MTL's perspective except for Hoffman... maybe Anderson too I'm not sure how to judge that one.

Feels like this would be selling low. For example, Dvorak was just acquired for a 1st and a 2nd, why would trade him for a 2nd one year later?

Why would MTL trade Petry (while taking on Khudobin) just to move up from 62 to 18... and then trade Allen for Barrie presumably to replace Petry? Just keep Petry until a better offer comes along and trade Allen (assuming Price is even back).

With $6M in cap space, why trade Drouin (while retaining 50%) for a 3rd round pick? Better to keep him and hope he has a good year to be flipped for more at the deadline.

I think these are very close to what Habs fans should expect from trades. Many of these trades clear up space for younger players to get their chance. The Dvorak trade was obviously a mistake, and the Habs would probably prefer to move on from him, even if they can't get a first back. Drouin needs a change of scenery for his own sake. He's been getting flamed by Montreal media and needs to get a second chance somewhere else. Moving up to 18 from 62 is huge, and definitely worth it. Rumours have already reported that the Habs will move Petry and acquire a top 4 dman to take that spot. Allen helps Edmonton with their goalie problem, and comes at a good price. If the Habs are willing to be bad, why not let Allen win somewhere else, and lose with Khudobin.

17 pts in 22 GP under St. Louis (while playing a significant role on special teams and faceoffs)... a pace of 63 pts over a full season. You're ready to give up on him after a miserable Ducharme year?

Yes he needs a change of scenery, he will get it. He's a UFA after next year. In the meantime Drouin can take one last stab in MTL (hopefully healthy under St. Louis) and we see what happens. There is no reason to trade him unless we need the cap space (which we don't with the moves you've made, you're just trading him from the sake of moving on). Most people forget Drouin was actually MTL's most productive player under the terrible Ducharme team until he got hurt. He was one of the few players playing ok. Curious to see what he could do under St. Louis.

Would an 18th pick be nice? For sure. Do 18th overall picks always turn into impact players? No (probably 50%), and this draft isn't regarded as very deep. Petry is a bona-fide top pairing D (scored at a pace of +60 pts under St. Louis and had Norris consideration the previous year while Julien was coaching). Ducharme did so much damage to this team.

I could live with this without giving up the 62nd pick. Ristolainen got 14th overall, Hagg, and a 2nd round pick when he was a pending UFA.

If you're trading Allen for the sake of being bad and rebuilding then get a draft pick or a young player, not Barrie. I'd rather see them add someone like Subban in free agency than trade for Barrie. Barrie is not needed in MTL.

Petry trade doesn’t work for both sides. With the second going back Montreal isn’t getting enough overall value for Petry. And Dallas shouldn’t be offering 18OA unless they’re getting a younger player. I wouldn’t give more than a second for Petry. Dobby is likely going to be on LTIR after his surgery, but we can move him elsewhere if we need to

Good effort but you will see 6 more trade exactly like this in another hour by Montreal fans.

It seems impossible to get anyone to understand. Taking Dobby does not help us take Petry. Petry is on the books for 3 more years as his play declines. Dobby s cap hit is only for next year. Without direct retention on Petry or maybe Faksa going back. This doesn’t work.

You make good points, but any retention or taking on another contract back would only increase the price of acquiring Petry. Not that I agree with it, or that DAL will want to do it, but Kent Hughes made it very clear that he will not be selling low on Petry, and he has no issues keeping him if the right deal doesn't present itself.

....We also got articles from guys like Seravalli, Engels, and Lebrun that all say Petry will be traded without a doubt.... so it's very hard to gauge if Hughes is perhaps lowering his expectations on a return (I doubt it) or if there's an actually market of teams interested in Petry that will pay the "premium" price Hughes is asking for.
