    It would be a mistake to pay Oettinger that much for that long, which is above market value (if you are talking about the signing and not the compensation). I'm sure Dallas matches because they think of him as a franchise goalie so would gladly pay him that much and the compensation isn't great.

    @JORTSDUBYA A team offer-sheeting, are obviously going to recognize his potential but won't commit, to a contract like that without more proof (especially with Markstrom and Shesterkin's contracts setting the new market for UFA and RFA goalies). They will just offer him an 8mx1 deal (which would put his qualifying offer through the roof, so they better be confident that they can agree to terms at a price that they would like or not need the compensation package of a 1st 2nd and 3rd).
