U should just let Burakovsky walk

Yeah i think burky has to be let go, just a cap casualty. But i think the money has to go to find a 2C if we want to repeat. Newhook didn't take a big stride to show he was ready for that role at all, i think if we can't get giroux at a reasonable price for a year at 2C sakic will reach into the trade market to fill that role.

This. I love Burakovsky, but the playoffs showed that the Avs can roll a top-6 filled out by Nichushkin and Lehky. Signing Bura at $6.5m would only complicate things moving forward (Mack, Byram, Newhook, etc.)

I tend to agree, but do you think that his playoff performance was at all a result of his basically losing weight with the flu? He was out for a while and I feel like the DNVR boys said he lost 15 - 20 lbs. Regular season Newhook showed some flashes of potential for top-6, but playoffs was a different story

I never heard of Newhook having the flu, I think that was Rantanen that they said lost 15-20 lbs. I may be mixing stuff up though

I think this is generally what they do, with the exception of letting Burakovsky go and use some of that money for a 2C. I know DNVR has mentioned they're interested in Copp, but not sure if they'd want to do that much term that he'll probably want. Otherwise I think you see if you can get Giroux on a short term deal or look at a Stastny. If things are tight next summer to sign Mack/Byram/Newhook then I think a Girard trade is the most obvious.

I am not sure about the flu part but i think newhook could slide top 6 wing for sure. Even split draws with whoever we find to play center this season, but i don't think he's ready for the role 100%. With burky leaving that opens up a top 6 role, most likely taken by lehkonen but regular season will give everyone a shot everywhere with injuries as usual.

Agreed. He has the potential, but perhaps not quite ready yet. Will be interesting who they take a run at if Kadri walks. All signs point to him testing the market, but who knows. I'd have my eye on Trocheck and Victor Rask. They won't bring the offense Kadri did, but won't break the bank either.

Yeah that was Rantanen. Idk what the deal is with Burakovsky. I think he is probably a luxury the Avs can no longer afford without causing problems down the line.
