Description
This is just a thought here:

1. I would honestly rather sign Trocheck or Copp to be a 2c (Kadri will probably be too expensive), but just playing around with the idea. I don't even know if PLD would sign a long term contract with the Caps since he wants to hit UFA. If he is dead set on not signing an extension, Caps should avoid. Too much to pay for a 1 year guy. Also, the contract for PLD could be way off - truly I do not know.

2. I know a lot of Ducks fans will say that the Gibson trade is not enough. Gibson has been well below average the last few years (actually VV has better numbers the last 2 seasons). A B prospect who is NHL ready, a 1b goalie, and a 1st + 3rd for a goalie who has bad stats - makes sense to me. I wouldn't want to give up more than this - Just go for Varly or Husso if Ducks say no.

3. Wilson will return in Feb - when he does, move Snively down to AHL and AJF to healthy scratch - that creates enough space.

4. Imagine when Wilson comes back - this team would be very dangerous.

That should get the Jets talking. Unless they don't like Iorio.

You really haven't traded any cap away to acquire 8m PLD and 6.4m Gibson. You can sign just as good UFA for 14.4m and keep the those first round picks.
Gee sign Campbell for 5m and you're just as good in net. PLD is a second line centre. Kadri at 8m X 4 or so is better so better value.

Exactly my thought process as well actually. This was just a new attempt I was playing around with. I do think PLD is better than Kadri (better on ice and better age - 24 compared to 31).

If you read the description, I say I would rather sign Trocheck / Copp (or Kadri depending on price) and keep the prospects / picks

This Ducks fan thinks the Gibson trade is fair value (young NHL roster player, B to B+ prospect, 1st round pick). I'd rather the NHL player coming back was a forward but the extra pick makes up for that.

I agree on the Gibson part, but if Dubois is willing to sign long term (a pretty big if), I would much rather give up the assets to get someone who is only 23 -- much less risk of PLD suddenly falling off a cliff than Kadri or Trocheck, and in 4 years when Ovi is gone he will have a lot more value.

Geez you're really low on the Jets assets, I hope no actual GMs that are inquiring on the ask for Dubois and/or Helle are on here reading your suggestions... 😆🤣

Hmmm I didn't mention Hellebuck at all...
And Dubois is great, don't get me wrong. But for a team that doesn't have him under contract, won't be able to resign him in a year, and potentially entering a rebuild, this is a pretty solid offer...

What else would you add? You have a top 4 RHD prospect, a top 6 forward prospect, and the 20th overall pick in a very deep draft class for a guy who will be a UFA after next season.

It's not so much the players but their contracts. I feel the same way about similar players throughout the league.

For instance, I don't know why Hellbyuck (2 years remaining) or Gibson (5 years remaining) would demand so much in a trade..when a team can sign just good UFA for their 6m cap
PLD is a second line centre. This year he was 40th in Points per game among centres. Again we should any team give up great young assets (no cap returned) when they can sign a UFA, for similar cap then what Dubois will like get (for some reason) in his contract?
I just think these trades values are way off in a cap strapped league. Actually the trade for PLD probably is fair...and maybe even Jets could get more, depending how free agency pans out Think the trade for Gibson is way too high for Washington.

I know you didn't mention Helle, palhal made a similar comment about Helle on another post as he did about PLD on your post here.

This seems fine to me for Dubois but I'm ready to move on quicker than a lot of other Jets fans are. Who's a higher ranked prospect, McMichael or Lapierre?

Yeah I get your point, long term though a Dubois is probably better than a 32 year old Kadri or Trocheck who'll probably regress at some point.

As for Helle and Gibson, a lot of teams probably wouldn't have the same kind of faith in a Campbell as they would Helle or Gibson.

I'm hoping the Jets move on from Helle and PLD as soon as possible, neither do much for me, both are overrated imo.

McMichael is no longer considered a "true prospect" as he played full-time in NHL this past season and will play a big role this upcoming season. Lapierre is a highly touted prospect who played about 7 games in the NHL last season and did fine. Regressed a little in Juniors this year apparently but is still seen as a high prospect / top 6 forward.
