That's the problem with so many trades posted. "Homers" think they are going to get equal trade on ice value for players. Fact is in a cap strapped league, the teams with cap sign a UFA and not give up their young assets.

Honestly, Mrazek can easily get bought out by NJ, and they would save money over signing Gaudreau since it would then be 8.5m. I think Gaudreau would be a mistake since they would probably pay him 10m at the least and I'm guessing he would have less than 100 pts with them next season.

Probably higher chance of happening but idk if that nee trade works for NJ in terms of what they are losing.

From Toronto's perspective, they will have problems playing Sandin as the 7th D. He would definitely request a trade, he's already concerned about his minutes since Gio was signed. So acquiring Graves wouldn't make sense, let alone to extend him now.

Either way any competent GM can spend 7m X 2 year and 1m X 4 (Mrzarek's buyout)....that's 8m on a very competent UFA, and not give any assets.

There might be no need for this trade or a major signing if they trade the 2OV for someone. The only guy they really need to sign is Bratt and then they can go from there. I think if the other guys were to be offer sheeted NJ wouldn't be faced with a difficult decision.

So you trade Kerfoot for a 4th rd pick, send down Robertson. That leaves you 4.85 million to sign a better LW UFA. Just a thought
