yes you can. puckpedia confirmed that this is perfectly legal and Orpik ruling is a standing precedent for such a move. the rule regarding buyout then sign is if the team buying him out is the team trying to re-sign him for cheap. if another team buys him out, its perfectly legal

they haven't and given that the orpik move happened under the current CBA and the NHL ruled on it to be fair. It'd take a lot to go back on it. At least with the keith recapture situation, negative recapture hasn't been acted on before

klefboms contract itselfisn't carrying a 1st with it. bishop trade kinda set the ball park. Zadina is a meh 3rdliner that could use a fresh start and the wings get a 1st to take a crack at making a first hit again. klefbom on 1 yl so doesn't handcuff the team in the slightest

the covid cba is just a slightly amended version of the 2018 CBA. biggest changes were related to backdiving deals recaptures, covid protocols. trade rules have not changed between the 2 cba's. also puckpedia confirmed that it would be a legit move to do

zadina's value is not high and klefbom's contract will be slightly more than the ballpark of the bishop trade value. a 3rd liner that needs to be resigned is perfectly fair for a 1st rounder and holding 1 yr of klefbom. if there was more than 1YL I agree with this but with klef only have a year left, there's only so much it would cost to move. and to take another crack at trying to hit on the 1st round for a miss in zadina would be a very yzerman move

Detroit doesn't need Klefbom to reach the cap floor so he's redundant to us, Only good piece is Edmonton's 29th overall pick that's it. Zadina gets a late 2nd or early 3rd round pick at worst.

that why the 1st. 1st is equivalent to 2 2nds IMO so basically its a 2nd for the contract and a 2nd for zadina in terms of value. which compared to what the market has been for trading contracts is entirely fair.
