That's not a poor return for Horvat. Especially because Ottawa doesn't need him at all. JBD will most likely be a top 4 defenseman in the next year and Formenton is well on his way to becoming a Kreider-esque player.

Stutzle could play on his wing. JBD probably doesn't leap Hamonic until late in the season. Zaitsev may be tough to move. At least that was the thought with the suggested trade.

Sens really don't want/need to rush JBD. Keep in mind less hockey has been played the last 2 years with Covid. JBD only played 58 AHL games so far... he's still 21 y/o and he's a D-man

And yeah, Sens might be stuck with Zaitsev unless they accept to lose money (like retaining or send him to the AHL)l. I wouldn't mind if he was the 7th D-man until further notice. There's always injuries and it wouldn't be bad depth

Did you forget that Pinto, and Joseph are very appealing options for the Sens to play in the top six if Stutzle moves back to wing which he won't cause he broke out as a center. The whole point of this offseason is finding a WINGER for Stutzle. Also Zaitsev can be bough out or scratched or half retained and traded to a contender to be a 3RD. Hamonic is well liked but JBD will always be pushing and may push him out of that spot.

I don't imagine Pinto top 6 yet and neither Mathieu in a top 6 role. Though certainly can make a strong top 9. But yes I get the winger aim.
