The Islanders have been a team that has found success the last few seasons (not including last year) by being a defensive team that outlasts teams with their depth. I would like to stick to that identity, and although it would be great to sign a guy like Forsberg or Gaudreau, add a young guy like Fiala, or move Heaven and Earth for DeBrincat or Pasta, the team would lose its identity. By adding a big fish like that, the rest of the team/future would be depleted and cap troubles would arrive in coming years. The Islanders are in a weird spot right now where they have to both be “win now” but also preserve picks and young players for the future, as we are the oldest team in the league. So, taking that into account, here is what I would do if I were Lou Lamoriello.

Also, I know Bailey is almost an insta-trade for any Isles ACGM, but I can’t bring myself to trade him and see him play his 1000th game in another uniform. I think he could definitely be moved at the deadline if this team doesn’t workout and is out of a playoff position, but I doubt that. I think Bailey is still a decent enough playmaker that turns it up to another gear in the playoffs, which has value.
