I've seen this exchange discussed in numerous threads involving Fiala, and I don't recall how much the Islander guys liked it. I'm now a Ducks/Kings fan, so no one should consider me competent to opine on serious deals like this one. (I'd be okay on general outline exchanges or obviously out-of-whack ideas.)

Hard to say really, I think it all depends on what other teams are willing to give up and how badly the Islanders want Fiala. They don't have a ton of cap space so it will be harder for them to acquire him than, say, NJD, OTT, LAK, or CAR. I know a lot of Islanders fans are SUPER high on Wahlstrom, so I think most of them wouldn't be too keen on a package like this. It feels a bit rich, but if there's a bidding war, maybe they offer this? I bet they'd prefer to send the 2023 1st over this year's though.

Id only move the 23 1st if it had protection. An unprotected 23 1st should not be moved especially for a team that missed the playoffs this year.

As an NYI fan i wouldnt. I dont think the value is there (13 and holmstrom and a 2nd would be my best offer in terms of value and if it gets outbid so be it) but i further disagree with the idea of trading for a current star. Every good team is built through the draft and gutting the system to trade for a star is how to sell a lot of merch and tickets but never win a championship

Yeah each team is different. But good teams usually pick up FAs or trades to put them up another level. I appreciate you wanting to build through the draft. Can't argue with that.

Yes its true but they dont pick up core pieces. So for example colorado mackinnon makar rantanen and landeskog were drafted. Kadri and toews were both buy low guys. Tampa has kuch stamkos vasi point hedman palat cirelli that were all drafted and serg was a top prospect 1 for 1. Mcavoy bergeron pasta marchand all drafted by BOS. None of these teams sell the farm for a star player. I could keep going btw with washington and pittsburgh. I think the only way for the isles to do this right and have a chance is to develop their guys and hope they turn out really good. Hope wahlstrom becomes that top line sniper. Hope 13oa becomes an impact player, hope raty becomes a legit 2C. Otherwise you give up everything for fiala or cat or pasta and then dont have assets to get the colemans and hagels of the world that put you over the top.

I will only argue that core pieces don't ever get traded. Unless their are cap constraints. I do not want Fiala traded. He has played with average linemates until Boldy and still put up big numbers. It sucks our past sins with Parise and Suter contracts have led us to this point.

Who knows what they will get for him in the end, but there is a 90 percent chance those players never have the talent he does. We as Wild fans have had very little top end offensive talent in the past 20 plus years and now we have to get rid of one. It sucks.
