As a canes fan I’ll say Raanta as a starting goalie is not your answer. He is great when he plays but the injuries limit him

I disagree
Great way to get rid of Gallagher contract and Barrie will help the tank for next year plus he’s a RHD

Why would a team who has Stanley Cup aspirations trade one of the best backup goalies in the league on a good contract for a 1st round/2nd round swap?

You could make an argument for Puljujärvi or even Barrie to the Canes, but not for an asset that likely doesn’t help the Canes for 3-4 years.

We don't need to get rid of the Gallagher contract, he will bounce back. I don't mind getting Barrie but only as a 2nd pairing guy if we move Savard (which I don't see happening)

Even if Gallagher bounce back, Ylönen can do better under 1M
6.5M is too much

Ylonen isn't capable of putting up 30 goals a year like Gally is.

Gallagher will never score more than 20 goals ever again and he’s creating more turnovers than he has ice time
Ylönen have talent, Gallagher has none.
Hey he did two seasons with 30 goals, but 95% of his goals are garbage goals. You’ll say goals are goals, but the odds of scoring 30 garbage goals are low. It’s over now, no more lucky bounce

There is no use arguing over something with someone who can't see the forest for the trees. Gallagher has talent, otherwise he would not be anything more than you or me. Just cause you don't like him or are jealous of him or whatever the reason for your angst towards him doesn't mean he doesn't have talent.

Habs will accept that!

I think Gallagher has another gear in the next few years but the contract is going to be painful when they contend. Gallagher would be worth something if the contract was 2-3 years shorter but right now is a cap dump.

It actually makes a lot of sense for both teams as Edmonton has about a 3 year compete window with McDavid-Draisaitl contracts ending. It doesnt matter what bad deals they have in 2026.

Disagree but the left side of the defence is worrying. Keith is such a disaster. Kulak's skating really showed with Nurse being limited this post season.

That trade swap is an asset you can use as trade bait, worst comes to worst.

You got Raanta for nothing! Goalies dont hold much value around the league unless they are a number 1 with maybe 10-15 guys like that in the NHL that can play 55-60 games. Canes got Freddy and PYOTR KOCHETKOV. Dont see what you are losing in a worse case scenario besides a hypothetical trade that doesnt affect the play on the ice.

Oilers of all teams should understand the value of a quality backup goalie. Pyotr needs a full year in the AHL before he’s fully ready for the NHL 1B role - he needs to play more than 20 games while watching from the bench for 60+.

Youre saying as if gallagher is a scrub. He was in the 97th percentile for 5v5 play driving. 64th percentile for WAR. He just had his worst finishing season ever by shooting more than half of what he usually shoots. He'll be back to scoring 25-30 next year easily. This deal only happens if its a Hoffman for Barrie swap

I hope you are right, but every time Gallagher touches the puck, he does the worse play possible. For a full season …
