Buffalo won't take Drouin especially with that asking price. Retaining salary doesn't increase his value since we have to reach the cap floor. He would take Peterka's or Quinn's spot in the lineup.

HABS would take on Hornqvist Salary of $5.6M and Chiarot won`t be there so CAP is no problem

Florida can't afford Jeff Petry @ $6,250,000 x 3 years, Huberdeau and Weegar need new deals.

Ben Chiarot is LD and Jeff Petry is RD so they're not even comparable.

Habs would not retain 50% but they probably would retain 25% to make a trade.

I'd take a quick gander at Florida's cap page if I was you...I don't know how to do "new" math, but old math tells me:
-Florida currently has $3.9 mil in space, with 16 players signed.
-Teams roll with a 22 man roster.
-Subtract the $0.9 mil difference between Petry and Hornqvist
-Now you're at $3 mil, with 17 players signed.
-NHL league minimum salary=$750 K
-$3 mil divided by 5 players=$600 k.
-Surrreeeee, you could always go with a 21 man roster right at the cap with $0 in space which doesn't work.
-Chiarot was never going to be there...at no point has his contract affected next years cap for Florida...
-Congrats, you've also sucessfully swindled Florida into submission, by giving them a declining defenceman signed for the next 3 years, so that you can steal Huberdeau, because they can no longer afford to re-sign him.
