The previous scoring record holder for the Flint Firebirds (Othmann’s team) was Ryan Moore, with 39 goals 51 assists 90 points in 68 games. OHL stats don’t guarantee anything even as encouraging as they can appear.

They don't guarantee success. They don't guarantee failure either. Othmann was drafted 16OA last year. He must've done something right. Ryan Moore wasn't even drafted. He's 5'8 170 lbs. Othmann is 6'0 180 lbs. He's 19 years old and is said to have an elite shot and plays all situations.

But stats alone don't give you the whole picture and depending on who wrote the scouting report it can give you far better picture that advanced stats alone can give you. Scouting reports are a single opinion wether it's written person, a group or a team it is still a single opinion but I did say reports plural. When you are reading several scouting reports all from different sources and they are saying the same things it does give it more credibly.
