I looked up the listed line combos, and he was mentioned as either 3rd line or 4th line. I don't care what line he plays on, he doesn't perform at the level of a top-6 player any longer.

Mantha had 23p in 37gp coming off injury. That’s a 50p pace. That’s easily top 6. He played with Oshie in the playoffs and was one of our best players 4p in 6gp.

His stats for the season match up with Athansiou, he has injury history, declined in minutes, and plays a style that doesn't seem to work for longevity at that cap hit. That is why you are trading him.

I’m trading him to get a defensive partner for MF. His play has been great and this year might be a wash for the caps due to Wilson being hurt and Backstrom being done. Could just trade a Alexyev and a 2nd for Durzi. Mantha imo had way more value than that

I think the question is, can the Kings find an effective and less banged up version of Mantha in the free agency? I mean this is a pretty decent year to buy a top-6 UFA and the Kings have cap space.
