Yep, but you're talking about the guy who was tied for 2nd in the NHL for points, after years of being an (arguably) underpaid star, who is apparently going to the free market.
I honestly figure that the Marner deal (13.38% of cap) would be a good deal, but we're talking about the guy tied for 2nd in points in a year he becomes UFA. It's not the Panarin deal, which may be closer.
I thought that the Flames would resign him, but the more I look at it, the more I question it. You're talking 76-80, matching the Panarin deal is 94, and I think the market for a UFA Gaudreau is higher than that.
Will be an interesting negotiation, to say the least.
