For me it’s the contract. He’s due for a huge raise, and we could just pick a prospect at 2OA with an ELC and get a very good winger in this UFA class or another with the saved $.

If it’s for one year, sure. But if he comes with an extension, I think it may be one of the better one-for-one options available. I’d take Pasta over many of the other names that have been discussed with 2oa (Nylander, Fiala, Meier, Necas, Miller, Boeser, etc)

But drafting Slafkovsky or Cooley still may be best move.

Slaf/Cooley + an impactful winger like Val/Nino/Marchment would equal an AAV of around Pasta’s current 6.4 million.
Pasta’s extension is going to be like 10 mil, when we can spend 6-7 and most likely have two top 6 wingers for 3 years

I agree that making the pick seems like the move today, especially if that money goes towards another need like a goalie.

But of the trade options, this appears to be one of the better ones.
