That Chicago trade is a joke. So is the Canucks trade.

I really don't mind where Weber ends up, but if a team trades for him, they have to be able to fit his salary within the cap before sliding him to LTIR. I don't think Toronto can do that at the moment.

That's not even close to getting Miller without retaining salary.

    Yes there is.

You're allowed to be 10% over the cap, but must become compliant before game 1.

Yes there is. Teams can exceed the cap by 10% during the off season.

Definitely is. 10% cushion. It's all under the CBA tab at the page's upper right, under CBA FAQ and LTIR FAQ.

"Can LTIR be used in the off-season?
Yes, LTIR can be used in the off-season while the 10% off-season cushion is active. LTIR in the off-season is calculated using the basic equation outlined above, which permits a team to exceed the off-season salary cap. To use off-season LTIR the team must provide doctors proof that the player in question will continue to be injured at the beginning of the regular season for 10 NHL games and 24 calendar days.

At the start of the season the teams LTIR relief & ACSL is recalculated when the 10% cushion is removed."

Kane+Strome for Nylander would give you a better chance at acquiring Kane, assuming they aren't going to tender Strome, they will likely want the rights of a player back too or a B/C prospect or mid pick

Hawks probably wouldn't do Kane for Nylander 1 on 1 let alone include Strome. Nylander is a 2 year rental, and doesn't fit the rebuild as such. Kane as a 1 year rental, a better player then Nylander, hands down has more value to Toronto if they don't feel they are willing to or Nylander is willing to extend despite Kane being a 1 year rental versus Nylander being a 2 year rental.

Regardless, highly unlikely Kane waives to play in Toronto

If it's true that they are letting Strome walk then they might, Nylander can easily walk too so there will have to be other things on both sides for them to make the trade even if it's just exchanging picks and prospects.

I was just saying the 2 for 1 is more realistic than what he was saying, the Kyles would both want 4 pieces for their guy, if Strome isn't being qualified, then Chi might only ask for what a player like him would return as when ufa rights are being traded.

Nylander isn't too old considering Jones is part of the new core, Kane might be better but he is bound to drop off, so even if they extend him they will be paying a lot for him. Chi's rebuild is odd, I think they are just trying to tank for a year and get as much as they can in picks and have the fastest rebuild ever since everyone even their young players seem like they are on table. They seem to be doing something what Arizona is doing and what LA did.

Nylander has no loyalty to Chicago and highly unlikely he doesn't test the market in 2 years if he's playing for a bottom feeder thus there isn't much value in Chicago taking on Nylander unless they plan to flip him. That said, not a great plan either as his stats are bound to drop off playing in Chicago especially after Toews (the following year) is gone and likely Strome not to mention Kubalik. Furthermore, Kane is a icon in Chicago and he sells tickets and jerseys, Nylander will not replace that revenue for the Hawks. I just can't see the hawks doing it.

Needless to say, it's highly unlikely Kane play waives to play for a Canadian team so it's a moot point.

Agreed about Kane waiving sinc he doesn't want to leave at all but if he does it will be for NY. I think Nylander would still get a point per game or 70pts at least if they still have some guys. Him being a 2 year rental is why if a trade like this does happen it's probably a 4 for 4 blockbuster
