Why Does It Have To Be Matt

Description
Like Billy said, “Why does is have to be Matt that goes? We have lots of options.”
Maybe it’s Mats that goes instead.
No one saw Staal to Buffalo for Marcus Johansson coming.
No one saw the Suter buyout coming.
Do I think Fiala is gone? Yes.
Do I think Zuccarello will be moved instead? No.
But, Billy says it’s all about winning the Cup. I wouldn’t be shocked if he moves the 34 year old to keep the 26 year old, 85 point winger.
Kaprizov can deal with it. He’s a big boy.

This would be difficult as Mats has a full no movement clause and 10 team no trade list.

The one team that might like Zuccarello are the Kings....and just might be on Zucc's trade list. They can afford his cap and might like his two year term. I think it's a good thought..

That’s not correct. Staal did not have a no movement clause. No movement means he has to approve all other 22 teams as well. Buffalo wasn’t on his 10 team no trade list so Billy was free to trade him to Buffalo without his consent. He’d have to get Mats approval for any deal.

You’re right about Staal not having the NMC. My bad.
You’re wrong about Mats having to approve any trade to teams not on his 10 team no-trade list. Once a M-NTC clause is added in the NMC is just a protection against being put on waivers.

I can't argue with the idea here. My frustration is with the line construction. Kaprizov, Hartman and Mats are all small and if they aren't quicker than the opponent, they are easier to shut down. I use the Avs top line as the standard. Kaprizov is average size no issue here. But if Rossi plays on that line, he's undersized, move to Mats and he's even smaller. Teams like the Blues can shut these guys down because they are just heavier and wear them down. Kaprizov and Rossi with a bigger winger would help that line in the playoffs. I do think there is no way they trade Zucc if they really want to keep Kaprizov long term. They would have to go get a player that is better than Zucc in every way to sell it to Kaprizov. But who knows, behind the scene's Kaprizov might care less who is on the wingers and is just enjoying his time with Zucc. Only time will tell here.

I hate to break it to you but Fiala is the one that’ll be traded, it’s always been him.

When I look it up it says “A no-movement clause prohibits a team from moving a player by trade, loan, or waiver, or assigning that player to the minors without the players consent. This keeps the player with the pro team unless the player approves one of these moves. The player has final say. Some players will often have a limited no trade list here as well.”

That’s the likely scenario yeah, but if he doesn’t get what he’s asking, I doubt he just traded him to trade him. Billy G is about maximizing his assets. That’s why he didn’t move Dumba the last two years, he didn’t get what he was asking for.

That last "Some players will often have a limited no trade list here as well" is what's important here.

He currently has a full NMC, meaning he can't be traded/waived unless he allows it.

Next year, he as a NMC with a M-NTC, meaning he has a short list of teams he can block trades to (in this case 10 teams) and can't be waived.

Ah okay that makes sense, thank you for explaining that. So BoredWildFan is correct, starting with the new league year, Mats can be traded to any team not on his 10 team list, my bad.

This is Interesting, Mats very well could be moved then. The return wouldn’t be nearly as high as Fiala but it gives Billy G an option if teams think they can low ball for Fiala.
