Description
I am hoping that the salary cap increases slightly. (Anyone heard anything?) Even if it does, the Oilers are going to have to make some tough choices of who to keep if they are going to try to re-sign Yamo, McCleod, and JP.
Just wanted to spitball some ideas.

I think that the Oilers are going to have to lean on rookies a lot no matter what.

I think Skinner is ready to make the jump to the NHL. But goaltending is definitely a concern due to Smith's history of injury.

Samorukov looked brutal in the one game I saw him in this year, but I believe that the organization is still high on him.

Détails additionnels:
I love Foegele. But if we are being real, he never really found a role on this team. He is probably overpaid slightly. Would be great to get a pick or a prospect for him.

Barrie is a great powerplay QB. Montreal really needs someone to fill in this role. Bouchard can probably take over his spot. Would be great to get a pick for him also.

Montreal will take all of that but give you nothing in return. We get players, picks, and space - you get money.

No, none of that is possible.

That's such a stupid move for Montreal. The absolute last thing they need is a 30 year old PP specialist D-man that's more of a 4-6 D at ES earning 4.5 mil for another 3 years. Montreal already has way too much money and term tied up in middle to bottom of the lineup veterans.

Barrie is a perennial 50-point defenseman on a great contract. You aren't getting him for nothing.

Perennial 50 point defenseman who hasn't scored 50 points in 3 seasons and will be 31 in July. Keep him.

Troll

Two of the last 3 seasons were artificially shortened, remember?

We watch him too you know. We're very happy at the prospect of not getting him.

Yeah, all I know is that Edmonton cannot afford Barrie and Foegele. I picked Montreal because its powerplay is abysmal - no offence (and I mean that literally: Montreal's powerplay has no offence :P), because it has cap space, and because it needs a RD. I do not agree that Barrie has zero or negative value. In 2020-21, he scored 48 points in 56 games and QB-ed a historically successful powerplay. He is really delivering in the playoffs and his defence has really improved.

I think Foegele was a great player in Carolina, but he has not really found much chemistry in Edmonton. I think some team will want him.

Should have known better than to propose a trade with Montreal - all you get is salty comments!
