Description

The Blue Jackets have never won the 1st overall pick. (They traded up for Nash)

In 16 draft lotteries, they've only moved up once; and it was up 1 spot, 4th to 3rd overall.

They've picked in the top 10 14 times in their history, (15 after this year) only picking 1st once (they traded up for it), 2nd once, and 3rd once.

In 2005, they had the 3way tied-highest odds to draft Crosby 1st overall. Instead, they dropped to 6th.

Just imagine if they never missed so hard on the picks where they were, I kind of wonder if atl drafted better if it would have been a factor in keeping them in atl. Amazing what winning does for a franchise.

Even top 10s should be players, that brûlé and little Russian misses were particularly awful, zherdev. Seems like they have never had a particular identity or gameplan. Tiny players that there skill didn’t play in the nhl is a rough start to a franchise. Should be like the area a hard working honest effort neighborhood, with some skilled mixed in.

Don’t get me started on that 2005 draft. Crosby aside, the Jackets scouts unanimously agreed that the Jackets should pick Anze Kopitar with their pick. They were set to go up there to pick him but Dougie Mac decided that he would override them and get Brule. Literally one of the most dumb founded decisions ever. He was the biggest problem for this franchise and we are still feeling those repercussions today.

Ya a sure fire sign that you truly missed a pick is how many opportunities the rest of the league gave more opportunities to the player. Actually to that point McLean also, never got another opportunity. Hope bigger things coming

You should consider the fact that if they won the draft lottery in later years, theyd be a better team and not in contention for the lottery in the more recent years.

well basically the point of this was to show how many players the CBJ have missed out on. Almost all of these players, even just 1 would've made them significantly better at whatever point in time they could've gotten them, instead they've gotten none of them. Minnesota can relate, but Columbus has had even more chances still to no avail

You could make this argument about every NHL team though.
If all teams could go back and select the better players, there wouldnt be enough good players left on the board for everyone else.
Every team drafts duds in the first round, literally every team.
