Description
Personally I believe this team is better than this years team, not to mention there's still a lot of cap space.

I think marchment should be a primary target for the Canucks. He's put up good numbers with florida while also playing good defensively. He won't be paid a lot this off season due to lack of sample size but he'll be worth the money. He's also got size too.

I personally would sign him with the goal of playing him with petey and boeser. He'll add size to the line and he's defensively responsible. I think he'd favour Vancouver because they can offer him more playing time which other top teams like Florida cant really do.

Miller for newhook and a late 2023 first is fair, especially since Miller is a 100 point player who can play in all situations. His leadership ability is amazing as well. I don't think Kadri will return to Colorado and if they don't get a top center back, they'll likely take a step back. Miller is at least on a discounted price for this next season. Newhook projects as a top 6 center, but is currently a 3rd line center. This trade is fair for both sides.

Canucks are in on kuzmenko too, if they get him, I'd trade pearson so the Canucks 3rd line would be kuzmenko newhook hoglander.

I believe Canucks have a stronger over all roster after this move and would be a playoff team. They'd lose out on Miller's points but I believe the team would have 3 good lines and the fourth line has shown to be very good.

Adding Rathbone to the D core also makes it much stronger.

Détails additionnels:
With Kadri leaving, Colorado has to fill the gap. They should do it with a 100 point center man who plays all situations and is at a bargain contract.
COL
  1. Miller, J.T.
Détails additionnels:
Canucks lose out on Miller and take a step back but newhook and the 2023 1st round pick could help them in a couple years

If I'm Colorado, I probably give Newhook the reigns on 2C and see how it goes. There's very little chance that they'll be able to afford JT moving forward, with MacKinnon/Byram needing to be re-signed in the same offseason. I'd imagine they probably try to lock up some of their own team before they even look at the trade block.

With Marchment...ouuuuu babyyyy...I'm definitely a fan, but that's a whole lotta money to pay for, as you said, that small sample size. He looks good, but 27 year olds putting up the best point pace of their pro career (including AHL) scare me. Could look dandy with Brock and Petey though...

Yeah I agree with you. I personally don't think newhook is ready for 2C yet, I don't think he could produce at a 90+ point pace like Kadri or Miller, which sets the avs back. The nice thing about the Miller contract is it expires when Mackinnon needs an extension so realistically they can go for it next season and then look at different options if they don't want to pay Miller.

Marchment might get less than 5 mil, I think a lot of teams have ur mindset. He's got a really low sample size and he played on the most offensive teams in the league. He's still a good player and good defensively. His corsi was even good last year for Florida. I personally would love him on the Canucks.

Just re: JT...I just think that's a lot to give up for 1 year of him. If I'm Colorado and I don't think Newhook can handle the load next year, I'd probably target a veteran UFA on a 1 year deal...Obviously a wild and wacky, very unlikely thought, but Giroux apparently had interest in going to Colorado at the deadline...I wonder if Florida falls out early if he'd be willing to sign for a year to get a shot? Even Statsny wouldn't be a bad 1 year stop-gap.

Would Miller be fun in Colorado? Absolutely. I'd just think that the 2 extremely cheap years of Newhook probably hold a lot of value for Colorado.

Colorado would have to be really really really desperate for a 2C to do that. The Canucks are in a pretty good spot where Miller is going to be by far the best center available in the offseason so who knows.

COL declines.
Newhook may not reach Millers potential, but, hes gunna be a hellava lot cheaper and younger with more contract control.
And for a team tight on cap, hes lower aav now is quite valuable.

and cut out this 100 pt centerman stuff.
Hes hit 100 once, never broke 80 ever in his previous 6+ seasons.
Chances are, he isnt developing into a consistent 100pt player at age 30

Agree about COL

Im also a fan of the Marchment deal. Its unconventional for guys to break out at that age but theres huge upside. It kinda reminds me of Devon Toews cause he spent a few years in the AHL before getting a shot in the NHL in his mid 20s. He had 146 career NHL games (reg season + playoffs) before COL gave him 4x4.1 which ended up being great value. Marchment has 101 career NHL games (reg season + playoffs) now so a slightly smaller sample size but not too far off. In terms of age and career trajectory Marchment-Toews is a very close match

Canucks haven't had much success with their UFAs signings over the years. Gee, he's a great season but hard to believe that he can maintain that level to worth 5m. Good luck to him and some team might pay him big term and $$$
