Description
Trading Fiala or Dumba this offseason is inevitable. The rumor from our beat writer all year long (mostly) has been that Fiala will be moved this offseason. My preference is still to keep Fiala, the electric 25 year old has the ability to take over games, had the 2nd highest scoring season in franchise history this year, works his ass off (this can't be understated), and he has matured greatly over the past few years.

All that said, I can't help but wonder if Fiala's lack of scoring during this playoff series has bothered Guerin. Fiala has shown he can be dominant in the playoffs before (see: the 2019-2020 playoff bubble play-in series with Vancouver) so I do think it's only a matter of time, but if we lose this series I would almost be shocked if Fiala isn't moved.

Below are some teams that I think will be in play for Fiala.

Targets for the picks would ideally be centers. Wright should go #1, and Cooley in the top 3, so that would leave Savoie, Nazar, Lambert, and Geekie. If the Anaheim deal is made and either Nemec or Jiricek are still on the board I think we'd take one of them.

Not sure on value, opinions appreciated here. I think Fiala is worth more then the 10th pick but Perrault is worth more than Addison to balance this out.

Added Addison in this one, I think there's a chance we move him this offseason as well especially if we keep Dumba. Ducks could use another young RHD to play behind Drysdale.

I’m looking at his stat line and seeing mid 6 upside, which is something to shake a stick at, but it’s by no means likely unless he can replicate his performance in the KHL next year. My point with Kaprizov, aside from tamping expectations, is that Kirill was playing full KHL seasons since his D-1 year. It took Gritsyuk until his D2 year to accomplish that and his production wasn’t outstanding in any one year. I’d compare him to a guy from the CHL that makes a jump in his D1 year as an overager to stay relevant, those guys can make it but are rarely more than replacement level players.

A couple of seasons ago, he was a recent 5th rounder playing alongside an undrafted prospect in their junior leagues. The two linemates put up monster seasons, as they had done in U16 and U17 together. Both among the top scorers. Gritsyuk was already drafted but Chinakhov was taken in 1st round as an overager in next draft.

Last season, in a pandemic year, Gritsyuk couldn't get into lineup much because Avangard was loaded with veterans (including two former #1 overall picks). He was also probably Russia's best forward until he got hurt at world juniors. So between international tournaments, quarantines, roster shuffling, he did not play much.

This year, while playing for a top team, he became one of Avangard's most important players, was the KHL's leading young player and was the youngest forward brought to the Olympics (The KHL sent their guys).

A drive-by of his stats does not tell his story at all.

Gritsyuk would be Minnesota's #2 prospect.

Rossi, Wallstedt, and Lambos would still supersede him.

IMO you build a package around the best possible prospect you can get first, then talk draft picks.

Ideally we'd get someone like Mercer, but I really don't think the Devils move him. There's a lot of talent in the top 8ish of the draft this year. Savoie intrigues the hell out of me, for example.

We will have agree to disagree on this one. He looks like a mid round pick developing like a mid round pick to me, I’ll leave it at that.

You mean 2020 WHL player of the year Adam Beckman? The same Adam Beckman that the Wild drafted 75th overall in 2019 and who won WHL player of the year over 2019 7th overall pick Dylan Cozens?

I'm extremely high on Lambos. I still view him as a top ten pick who dropped for health reasons. And now that he's healthy again, he's once again looking like the player who was being considered a top ten pick.

He was my primary defenseman target in last years draft. Johnson, Wallstedt, and Lambos were my big 3 wants, and the fact we walked outta there with 2 of 3 in the low 20's still tickles me something awful. Steals, both of them.

Lambos is Suter 2.0 by my player comparison.

I agree, but his year in the AHL this year was kinda concerning. But it's probably just likely the grind of the season just kinda wore him down, given it was his first full season taste of professional hockey.

Just looked him up. 34 points in 58 games, which is good but not great. I thought it was interesting the Wild told him to gear up for next year instead of coming for the playoffs so think you may be on to it. I’m holding my line that he’s a mid 6/PP2 guy as a floor with upside from that. Steady, consistent development.

Always viewed him as a scoring middle 6 player: 20-25 goal guy with maybe 50 or so points as his ceiling.

That's where I see him too.

Tbf, he got onto a fast start, coming out hot like a firecracker. But then hit the proverbial stonewall and cooled down the last half. To the point of being a non-factor in most games. That's why it feels like the season was too long for him.

I don't see him making the roster until 2023-2024 season at the earliest.

Same. As far as my expectation, he’s a 50 point guy in IA next year and scores his first NHL goal. I could also see him force his way onto the team in playoff chase as well. But he doesn’t seem like the kind of guy that doesn’t learn from slumps like this year and I assume he’ll be better for it.
