While Wheeler has an inefficient contract for a second line forward and Scheifele had the most 'wtf' end of season press conference ever, I doubt Chipman would let Cheveldayoff trade either of them. They've probably already decided that getting a new coaching staff will hopefully make it work it for one last try with Scheifele and Wheeler. Then the summer of 2023 is where things change when Wheeler, Scheifele (and Hellebuyck) are in the final years of their deals.

Even if he’s overpaid he’s still serviceable and you guys have like 40 mill in cap space. He also posted above .900 this year . So it’s not as far fetched as you think. And he only has 2 more years left
You have very reasonable posts and offer excellent comments to other posts.
Buffalo accepting this deal depends on the definition of "include something small"!
One year of Andrew Ladd cost 2 seconds and a conditional third.
When that trade was consummated, the Islanders presumed they would be in the playoffs and not giving away the 45th OA pick.
How is Murray any different than Ladd?
Would you not think "something small" would be at least a 2022 second?

Interesting take on the coveted top 6 wingers. Perron is earning a paycheque. I'm not a big fan of Wheeler (fantasy hockey PTSD). Winnipeg will be a fascinating team to watch this summer. How will Chevy retool? I think you build the team around Connor, Ehlers, and hopefully they can get Dubois committed long term. I think Wheeler, Scheifele are gone, and I think Helleybuyck might to head somewhere south.

This season should be quiet on the Hellebuyck front, with Elliotte Friedman talking about Hellebuyck’s future (May 2nd, Kenny & Renny Show): “I’ve heard as long as the plan is to contend that Hellebuyck is ok.”

I hope that's the case for Jets fans. He's an incredible goalie. He seemed quite exhausted from COVID and the COVID restrictions particularly in Canada. Made me wonder if he would want to head south.

He may well do that in the future. The organization's best chance of keeping him is getting team fixed (culture, defensive play).
