Having your middle six centres with a combined 28 games playing centre in the NHL is quite the gamble, as is putting a rookie D on the top pair.

Isles say no. Scheifele probably mirrors Barzal's production in the Islanders' system, so the Isles get an older player with rumored locker room issues and they have to give up a 2nd? No thanks.

The best-case scenario on Dillon's return is getting back what you put in with two 2nds. No one is giving up a 1st for that guy.

You might be able to tempt Montreal with that deal but it's more likely they give you Calgary's 1st than the 2nd overall pick. The last time someone gave up the 2nd overall pick, it was Mike Milbury making the trade - and Kent Hughes has not given me any sort of Milbury vibes yet.

I'd honestly say Pionk doesn't make a ton of sense for Ottawa. They already have 3 guys signed to play RD next year, and while it's not exactly a murderer's row (Zub/Hamonic/MDZ) their top 2 prospects on defense are both RD. Pionk isn't the worst guy to trade, but I think Ottawa would rather just hang on to 8th overall and see how Lassi Thomson and Jacob Bernard-Docker develop.

I think it's more likely that Logan Stanley brings back a 3rd or gets traded for a "change of scenery" type player.

Edmonton deal is interesting but kind of spits in the eye of your "fast rebuild" though. Going into next season with a Skinner/Comrie tandem is basically going in with 2 guys who haven't proven themselves to be starters, and I think the potential for the bottom falling out of this team would be huge, especially with no strong goalie prospects in the system.

Big gamble. Also, your goalie tandem has a combined total of 41 NHL games.

Sadly Jiricek will not be available at 8. You can make an argument that he is better than nemec

Scheifele deal goes around two players who could benefit from a change of scenery on teams who heavily underperformed. Scheifele is the better offensive player i would be okay with 1:1.

two 2nds is pretty much the same value as a pick around 20 imo. LA left side is really bad and Dillon slides into the top 4 right away as their rebuild is over.

Its a big ask but running Suzuki-Dubois-Dvorak down the middle would be incredible for Montreal. Drouin is essentially a cap dump at this point

I saw a sens fan offer the same trade Pionk for the 8th pick so i threw in Vesalainen who can benefit from a new team

Comrie and Skinner would split the games to see who can potentially be a starter for the next season.

The goal of the fast rebuild is to acquire the youth and spend the season seeing what you have and building from there.

I would take any top 5 faller at 8 or Nazar if he's available. Some might shy away from Jiricek with his recent injury

I’d turn down that offer to Edmonton. I’m really high on skinner and believe heavily in drafting and developing goaltender. Oilers should stay the course roster issues will cure themselves in the next year or so.

No way Sens move there 1st rounder this draft way to strong of a draft and I would think they end up a lot higher than 8th with the new lottery.

Sens say no, that's just not nearly enough to get 8OA. RHD is a need for the Sens but they'd be looking for more defensive stability than Pionk, and a potential project with just a hell of a lot of empty hope in Vesalainen is far from what the Sens need to be going for over the next few years. If the Sens are moving their 1st this draft, it's as part of a bigger package for a major impact player.

Chipman says no. I wouldn't get my hopes up for anything drastic happening.
