Description
Gotta trade the cap efficient Kerfoot for cap reasons. Vancouver would like him especially if they Miller this off season. Still some team will want him. He's been great value this season.
IMO the signing of Abruzzese was important to the Leafs. Gave them indication whether he could fill the role of centre/lw Kerfoot at a cheaper prize.
Looks like UFAs Mikheyev, Blackwell and Giordano have priced themselves out of the Leafs cap situation. All three should receive good offers if only short term. Maybe Giordano stays in hometown Toronto for a "Spezza" type deal for a run at the Cup

I know for his on ice value. But for one year, what team offers more that doesn't send cap to the Leafs is the issue.

Would love him back cheap. Would he sign cheap is the question. Actually I'm happy with all the Leafs Dmen this season....except Muzzin.

Gio seems to have really settled down the Leafs D. I think he'd take much less to end his career in his hometown. Maybe 1 year 2 mil? The Marc Staal deal?

If the Leafs could sign Giordano instead of Lybushin....that seems reasonable . Only think I don't like about it if the left side is Reilly, Muzzin, and Giordano it takes quality time from Sandin.
Sandin earlier before his injury was showing good growth, with more ice team. Liljegren has been better with regular ice time too.
Never thought I would be saying this.....Leafs have too many good NHL Dmenlaugh

Muzzin seems to be the player to trade but it won't be easy with his age, NTC, salary and 2 years remaining. He's become injury prone. Or Holl. I'm 50/50 on his play. Sometimes he's good. Other times he looks like he doesn't belong in the NHL. When he stays within his limitations he's solid. I'd keep the Russian Bear. And you want both Sandin and Liljegren getting regular minutes. Going with 8 D isn't a bad thing if you have a good rotation going.

Trouble with 8 Dmen is the waiver situation come October...and the cap. Now that we heading into the playoffs, I'm glad the Leafs have eight competent Dmen with Muzzin and Sandin on LTIR. And a ninth Dalmstrom has also played recently. You're right about Muzzin....he's impossible to trade. Holl has been a lot better when he hasn't had Muzzin as a partner. Lybushin has been fine, and with his upcoming NHL contract.maybe he's priced himself out of Toronto.

Honestly don't think we can trade draft picks for cap anymore. First just because we need to picks but also because we need to take a step back. Perhaps if we traded two or three other big contracts for futures this could work but I wouldn't do it as the roster is currently constructed despite it being prob a good deal in a vacuum for Van.

But does trading for a pending UFA help make the Canucks a better team? My wife likes to buy stuff because it was on sale, I have to remind her that if we don't need it, it doesn't matter if it was on sale or not it's still a waste of money. In this case it's a waste of a draft pick for a player we don't need.

As I suggested it may make the trade of Miller easier cause now, Kerfoot can take his place. And come TDL, it should be easy to get a good return for UFA Kerfoot. But if Miller is a Canucks for most of next year with the Canucks, yes there is less need for Kerfoot.
