These moves do nothing for WPG…while they don’t hurt us, they don’t help either.
I wouldn’t do them.
If your intent on trading Vesalainen, which i agree with as he needs a change of scenery, then at least trade him for some value.
I’d try VGK for Nolan Patrick or PHI for Owen Tippett
Reality is that Vesalainen probably won't come back to the Jets. Gustafsson is definitely coming up to the team next year. So you either move Harkins or Vesalainen, because there's still a roster spot available for a Kovacevic, Barron, Heinola, Reichel to fill. Let's say Vesalainen doesn't get a 1 way contract with the Jets, so he decides to go play in Finland again. Jets lose him for nothing. Same as Nathan Smith getting something instead of nothing is a win. I'd say the same scenario might be in store for Gawanke. Does he want another $70 000 season, does he get a raise from the Jets, at least double the AHL salary? I'd be more inclined to keep him, because he's been good with Chisholm, but with Tyrel Bauer coming into the lineup next year somebody has to move off the Moose, if Kovacevic goes up, fine, but then that's 23 players then, and which of the other ones would Vesalainen knock off? None, in my opinion. Time to move on, call a bust a bust. I don't think his skating is good enough, and I definitely don't think he has anywhere near the value of Patrick or Tippett, I'm sorry. I edited this post anyways cancelling the Gawanke trade, but moving Dillon instead, to build up picks in the system. And to give room to Heinola to move up to the #8 spot on the depth chart.. Signed a tougher player for the bottom lines than Vesalainen, which I think might be something Chevy looks at.
