How lol. They needed help on d and got a great veteran d man who played with Brodie very well in Calgary

They got an okay veteran d man. He also has the same issue as basically everyone on the leafs except for muzzin: no playoff success.

He has great defensive numbers this season, and was great last year. He’ll regain that chem with Brodie and they’ll be great. Oh and Coleman and goodrow had no playoff success before they went to Tampa. Wanna tell me how that turned out? Lol

Was that Tampa’s primary problem? Don’t think so. They’re entire core had previously made deep runs.

I might think a little different if they pay a first plus a bunch of other valuable assets but Gio is a great defenseman. I like the trade.

Great is obviously a spectrum. Some people think anyone that can play in the top four is, “great.” I tend to take the word a little bit more literally. Great defensemen aren’t exposed in expansion drafts and given up for second tier assets. He’s solid, and a good add for the leafs. He’s not great.

Ok, he was a great defenseman and is now a solid one. I’m still happy about the trade.

I’d say fair trade normally but considering how the market has been it’s a win for the leafs.

I guess i have a bit of issue with the intent of this trade, and what it accomplished. It kind of seems like it was a, “give us a chance,” trade. I still think that Toronto is in the same position they were before this trade. That being that they could beat florida, tampa, boston, and Carolina if they got hot and get the bounces, but they aren’t favorites.

I agree but they payed relatively little and got a guy who could resign.
