Dubas Version of a Masterclass

Créé par: kingjrb92
Équipe: 2021-22 Maple Leafs de Toronto
Date de création initiale: 14 mars 2022
Publié: 14 mars 2022
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Assuming that management feels more comfortable with Campbell playing as the 1B or backup and Varlamov doesn't have Toronto on his NTC or waives it. Mrazek trade depends on NTC as well.

At this point Varly should be trade target number one for Toronto.

I know it's probably an overpayment but if they want to go all-in I agree. Varlamov is IMO the best goalie option who is actually available via trade.

wow how did mrazek get an ntc.. luckly it's only 10 teams but still.
i dont think he'll be too picky but i don't know about the yotes. thats a tough job for a goalie.

Didn't even remember that he had one until making this post. Makes his contract look even worse and can't be sure he waives sadly.

The reported ask for Varlamov was apparently a 2nd and 3rd rounder, and if he hasn’t gotten that so far, idk why we would overpay to this degree

i think that's at full salary, with 50% retention it'd cost more and most teams looking for goaltending rn (besides edmonton who he apparently won't wave his NTC for) can't easily make space

That’s fair, but I don’t think it’s gonna cost that much in assets to get 2.5 mil retained. If we’re giving up all this stuff for a NYI goalie I’d much rather add more to get Sorokin

That's the issue though, Islanders aren't trading Sorokin

it would be way way way more to get sorokin, he's as close as it gets to being untouchable on the islanders. varlamov's got an extra year and i don't think they'd necessarily want all that extra cap for next year, so the assets they'd be getting in return would have to be enough to make up for the difference in cap between trading him for a second and third or something at full salary.

There’s ZERO chance the Sabres want Ian Scott
    And doubtful on Duszak
Just add another pick or something- if u want
A 5th by itself might be enough

I don’t think he would be untouchable if they want a rebuild. It’s his first year as a starter, and he’s a UFA following 2 seasons from now. If they decide to rebuild for the next couple seasons, which I believe they should, then trading Sorokin for a pile of assets is probably the best option for them

I'd take Duszak (for Rochester) and a 4th for Hagg

What’s the point of acquiring a guy for Rochester?
That’s fairly easy to do regardless
I’d rather have an additional pick, even if it’s a 7th

Love how a thread titled DUbas version of a masterclass starts out with many comments on an often injured backup goalie, who has been really bad, getting overpaid at 3.8mil and has a NTC is getting moved with a 2nd rounder for an overpaid and average ufa 4th liner.

    Irony
