Description
I went with 85 million as the cap because that's close to what it will be in two years, also @habitantlecolon challenged me to do this, so sorry to any team whose prospects I either under or overvalue. One thing I noticed is that this team will be reliant on ELC's to stay under the cap as I don't think that any team will be open to trading for the bad contract's on the Canadians or just some of their veteran players such as Hoffman, Price, Gallager, and others. All contracts are indicative of when they were signed, if there is no indication it's2022, 2023, and 2024 will be stated here. All contracts have the appropriate amount of term as to when they were signed. Monahan gets a three year test in Montreal at the second center position to see if he can regain some of what he was as a his former player. If not he is flipped at the 2024 trade deadline for what you can get. Gallager gets the 'C' and Letang along with Anderson get 'A's. You also may balk at the contract value for Letang, it's not like he's a bad defenceman and he is signed for '4' years after 2022 offseason but it will take a lot for him to leave Pittsburgh. I think that with more ice time Rem Pitlick could hit a scoring spree and be really good on that second line. I did not use any prospects, partly because we don't know where Montreal will draft but also because we all have different opinions of what this team should draft. Please add retention into any of the trades that I did not add retention into.

    Future Considerations

To reach the cap floor, this is only if it is confirmed that Weber is coming back, I consider this fair and also cross examine it to the Boychuck to Buffalo trade that saw them stay above the cap floor.

We will say that Price does return but gets hurt again and decides to 'retire' but in actuality is placed in the same situation as Weber.

Canes pass on Wideman. And my goodness that is a very big pile of trash trade for Edmonton. I doubt Edmonton wants Petry back, and they sure as hell dont want him back for that much. Also, Petry would want to play in the states so a move like that more than likely does not happen.

Oh, yeah good point, I'm assuming Petry bounces back a lot under Martin ST. Louis, but he would provide a minute munching RD that's not a defencive liability. Wideman you could change it to a seventh, I just chose the Canes because I read on Sportsnet that they were in the market for a defenceman.

You're also getting Brett Kulak and Cedrik Paquette but I think Petry would be great in the Edmonton system and he would provide a better defencemansly defenceman than Barrie, you also might retain two million, the Habs team has that sort of cap space.

Chairot will (unfortunately for whoever trades for him) be getting a 1st, but that team will not be WSH. They are likely set on the left side, as Fehervary and Orlov are cemented on the top 2 lines, and Van Riemsdyk is solid on the 3rd.

Instead of an LD, I can see WSH trading for a RD that replaces Schultz.

Chariot can play RD which is why I sent him to Washington.

I didn't think that the trade was that bad considering that your getting two defenceman and a depth forward all with playoff experiance for a defenceman that is probably playing hurt three okay prospects and a first.

Petrov and Savoie aren't "okay" prospects, Kulak and Pacquette are bottom-of-the-roster rentals and Petry's contract is really bad. Montreal should be paying you to take that contract, not the other way around.

Barrie has more value than Petry due to age and contract, then you added a bunch of high-end assets... yeah, it's not close.

I would've said that at the start of the season but Barrie hasn't played very well and Petry is a very good defenceman if you discount the first part of the season under Dominic Ducharme. He's a top 30 defenceman in the league, better than Benjamin Chariot whose getting a first +, Kulak will get a round a fourth and Paquette a 7th. If Montreal ends up paying anyone to take that contract hughes will be out of their quicker than a bunny. If you half retain it then it is close to fair value, maybe if you take out Tullio.

                            Edit: Bottom bit is mine.

Petry has allowed 4.17 GA/60 at 5v5 since the coaching change. That's BAAAAAD. And it's his contract that makes him a dump, Chiarot is a pending UFA so there's very little risk for acquiring teams. And I love how you state Chiarot's trade return as if it a fact! tears of joy

                            Barrie > Petry
Savoie, Petrov, Tullio and the 1st are ALL worth more than the 4th and 7th that you say Kulak and Pacquette are worth. Savoie is putting up similar NHLe's in NCAA as Caufield did over 2 years, it's pretty funny that you think you can get him for a Pacquette rental. Petrov and Tullio are top-10 in the OHL scoring race, and the 1st is the 1st.

                            You aren't close.
