Avs easily decline. Even if we did this there would need to be retention coming out of your own pocket. $2.5M isn't much to swallow, ESPECIALLY for 1 year.

Firstly no the Avs wouldn't be paying anyone else to retain if by some miracle they persuaded Sakic to do it. Vancouver would be or else they would be the ones paying somebody else. Secondly as I said it would be a miracle if they got Burnaby Joe to do it. Easy no for the Avs.

JT Miller fills so many needs for the Avs. I don't think it would be all of that for him though.

Byram hasn't played since the start of January and Colorado has been buzzing without him. So you are literally adding Miller without losing anything from your current roster. Avs have the pressure on them to get passed the second round this year and this is basically their last year to make a HUGE push.

Moreover, Miller is a perfect fit to replace Kadri next year when he walks and takes 7M+. He'll probably be better than what Kadri does next year.

What's the fascination with Byram? Last thing the Canucks need is to trade away their top scorer, with 1 year of term left and take back a player that may be one (or even less) hits away from retirement. The last thing the Canucks should be doing is trading certainty for risk, unless there's a ton of other potential upside to balance that risk.

Plus, you trade Miller to a western conference team and you only make it tougher next year, unless you're doing something that weakens the Avs more than it weakens the Canucks.

Whether Colorado would ever accept a deal like this isn't important, there's no way the Canucks should be going down a path like this one.

It's been rumoured recently that the Canucks have interest in Byram. Definitely some risk there but huge reward if he's able to get back to full health.

Regarding trading Miller in conference, I'm not worried about that if I'm the Canucks. Trade him to whoever gets you the best package. Canucks aren't in the same stratosphere as Colorado next year so doesn't really matter IMO.
